I've started with a head cold. Had it for a couple of days now, felt flu like yeasterday but today a little better. So far its not on my chest i'm coughing loads and my chest hurts but just from the strain its one of those annoying tickly throat coughs.
I just wondered if anyone else gets extra drugs when they have a cold to head it off before it hits the chest ? I know they have mentioned this before when i've been to the hospital, but i usually leave it and only ring if i start feeling really ropey. I'm on Zithro and Tobi at the moment.

Hi Julie,
For me with having cepacia i am always on oral antibiotics, and we usually switch them if i start feeling like i have a cold. Colds are usually viral so antibiotics wont touch them, but with cepacia colds usually wind up in my lungs and then its a whole different story. You could try taking Vit. C a few times throughout the day. The body does not store Vit.C so taking it once a day wont do much if you are trying to fight a cold. I usually take, 500-1000mg. 3 or 4 times a day when i have a cold . Make sure when you feel you have a cold to stay well hydrated to flush out the system.

When DS has a head cold, we usually try to do nasal rinses, increase his vest/cpt from 3 to 4 times a day. When he does develop a cough -- depending upon how it sounds post-nasal drip vs. bronchial, his doctor usually wants him on antibiotics for the latter type of cough to give him a little extra help.
