Our son was up through the night with severe colic like pain, he is nearly 11 months, and we seem to remember way back his cf doctor telling us that cfer's can have this pain, but we can't remember why this is so. Our son has no pancreatic issues to deal with, is this normal.

Craig, I would def. have him checked out. As you probably know, kids show their discomfort the only way they know how, by crying. Could be the ear, constipation, whatever.

We thought Kayla had colic for most of her First and second year of life. Looking back, I really think now that she may have had reflux. All my friends kids take something for reflux and they were like kayla was. Anyways, I dont know how they test for that, but I know it did wonders for their collicy kids. I wish I could remember the name but its a common adult reflux drug as well.

Good luck, I feel your pain with a collicy child, nothing like seeing your child suffer! Its very heartbreaking and exhausting.

DS went thru similar pain -- it was usually constipation. Was probably the worst when we started switching him from formula to whole milk. He started associating stooling with pain, so then he'd hold in his poo and it'd get backed up -- was a vicious cycle for about a month -- he'd be trying to poop these horrible hard logs -- that were HUGE, he'd cry, I'd cry.

His pain only lasted the night, it may have been because I inadvertantly doubled his cow's milk for the day-he takes cow's milk with his breakfast. And then we ran out of formula..doh. How stupid can one get. Enough for a 4oz bottle, so I made up a 4ozbottle of milk as well. Could have been that, the important thing is he is now better.

in regards to generally healthy children i think colic is a load of crap, it's some "disorder" created by western civilization because we are ashamed at our inability to hold our children due to work and busy schedules. there was a study done that said a majority of children in the u.s. spend up to 18 hours a day out of the mothers' and fathers' arms, or anyone's touch for that matter. there are other cultures out there where a baby is basically held by someone constantly for the first couple years of life and they know no such thing as colic. colic is just a baby saying they want to be held, to feel the warmth of another body, to lay their head on a chest and hear a heartbeat.
