Mark has me a little alarmed as he's returned from the gym tonight. He was working out arms and says he sat down it felt like something fell down inside his chest (he says he know it sounds strange) and it started hurting really bad underneath his sternum. He says he got the wind knocked out of him (he was sitting after doing some repetitions) while SITTING and it felt like someone took his lungs and squeezed them (like when trying to pop/deflate a balloon).

He's home now, has been for about 45 minutes and still says his chest hurts, he likens the feeling now to being kicked in the chest.

Help?? What do you think happened, should I drag his stubbon A#s into the doctor??????

I might at least call the doctor. Explain how he feels, see what they say and then play it by ear. I would probably call before running right out though. But I'm lazy. Course, with 239423 kids running around, you also might be better off to call first because you may be able to avoid the trip altogether. Convenience is your friend.

Edited to add: I haven't ever had a collapsed lung, so I'm useless as far as that's concerned.

When Ry had his lung collapse (Granted, it was a total collapse) he said there was a sharp, sudden pain, very painful. Then, he started having trouble breathing. Eventually, he had to be taken to the hospital. Hopefully it's nothing major, but if it doesn't subside, you should call someone.

And yes, a lung can partially collapse.

Ok, thanks everyone. If he isn't feeling better in 1 hour, we are calling the CF doc on call.

Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

I have no idea what a collapsed lung feels like, but just wanted to say that I hope it is nothing serious. Please let us know what the dr. says.

Julie,

Hey...it is entirely possible he "blew" out a portion of his lung. You know we get blebs and boli that cause the lung to become weak in those areas. I never lift heavy(for me anyway) becuse of that very reason. I would think with his lung funcition that it is more likely that he pulled a muscle though? Update us and let us know how things are.
