I have questions about the bottle sterilizer they sent:

1. does yours have an on/off button? or does it need to be plugged in/out to turn it on and off? I can't get the 'button' to work~it appears to be a button but i can't get it to move

2. how much water do we use? which fill line on the little cup?

3. did you get a 'grabber' to take the plastic handsets out of the sterilizer? If not, how do we to take them out to dry on a towel because they are too hot to touch? do we leave them there in the sterilizer to dry?

4. does the metal headpiece go in the sterilizer as well?

5. the instructions say to wash with soapy water and THEN sterilize? seriously? i can understand rinsing before putting in the sterilizer but soap and water? how much time are we supposed to spend 'rinsing' our nebs let alone completing the drug?

6. what are the ziploc plastic storage containers for? is that for the washing in soapy water part of the process?

thanks for your help!!

I use the Avent sterilizer not the NUK, so I can't answer all of your questions. But here is a YouTube video from the CFF on cleaning the Altera with the NUK that might help:

If that link doesn't work, just go to YouTube and search "altera cleaning" and you should find it. I rinse all pieces in a bowl with warm soapy water before sterilizing...that is what the Ziploc containers are for and you will see this in the video.

You can put the metal piece in the sterilizer as well, and then lay it on paper towel to dry. The other pieces I put in the Germ Guardian to dry but they can also be dried on clean paper towel. You should take them out to dry, not leave them in the sterilizer. If they are too hot, just wait a few minutes and they should be cool enough to touch. I forget how much water the NUK takes but I know it is in the instruction manual. I think you have to fill the measuring beaker twice...but not positive on the exact mL.

Re. 'why' the soapy water~ washing and sterilizing are both necessary regardless of what kind of neb you use or how you sterilize. Washing w/ soap first removes the med residue from the neb pieces before sterilizing; even if you boil nebs in water it's recommended to do this.
