Content of resume, what do you guys think?

This obviously isn't my complete resume. The service I purchased also will supply a really well done cover letter. The lady sounds like she knows her business, and has many testimonials for her locally. This is just what I sent her as per my accomplishments in general and my past, and very slight character information and personal pursuits. She will use this as the meat and potatoes so to speak to create the bulk of the Functional Resume (due to work history being an issue, we went with functional rather than chronological). I was just curious what you guys thought content wise about what i'm posting here. Both my mom, fiance, and sisters read it and thought I did a good job of detailing the things I have done, as in education, training, tests, etc. The way it's printed here is exactly how I typed it out quickly (within 10 mins) in notepad, so again, this is just what I emailed her to work with, this is not my actual resume. Even though I trust you guys, and I use my real name on here (nothing to hide), I added some ***'s to the information, just because anyone can browse this forum, but all the information is honest. For anyone who doesn't know me well, this isn't any kind of a brag post, what I have done in my 35 CF years doesn't hold a candle what tons of normal people, and even other CF's have accomplished, but I guess if you are going to have real good health CF wise, we can't have our cake and eat it too

Anyways give this a look and let me know what you think. Again this is a "functioning resume", which should be looked at like a normal "just out of college" kid, with the purpose of getting work in the security industry for better work experience, after that to move on up to state and preferably, eventually, federal law enforcment. There isn't much order in this content aside from what I recalled chain of events wise. It was done very fast in notepad using certifications, licenses, and memory to dictate what I used. I probably forgot some things, but this is just dealing with my education and training in general, nothing to do with my work experience. I will also have a cover letter soon that I will share with you guys. I will share the final result when it is done, and if you guys like what she produced, i'll direct you to her website. She is extremely friendly and nice, very accomodating, and her prices are very low (especially considering how the local lady wanted to take me for 700 damn dollars!. Anyways here it is, in an edited form ( I will continue to stack on certifications for what I can afford regardless where I end up, in weapon retention, advanced firearm courses such as street ready skills, winning mind, close quarter combat, CRIMPT secondary weapon, Tactical engagement, and tons of antiterrorism related courses/certifications, and maybe eventually executive protection, so again this is just an entry level resume, and it's VERY far from what the actual resume will look like, this is just it's general contents).

Sean, I would say you have done a good job. I can't wait to see the resume in it's completed form. You should be proud of your accomplishments! I wish you the best with this. I just have this gut feeling that you are going to do well. Please keep us posted.

I also have to thank you for being such a wonderful asset to this forum. I can't tell you how much I value your opinion. You have helped me face different aspects regarding my daughter's disease and given me hope for her future. And aren't you wonderful when you get everyone going and playing one of your games! You do good for so many.

You look more than qualified to me for all sorts of security positions. It looks great! One thing I would omit would be the Cystic Fibrosis Camp reference. Your resume creator may mention that to you as well. Unless you want to disclose that info right away, I would leave that out. It may lead to a conversation you were not planning on having right away. Otherwise, the info looked very good. You have a good amount of education and certifications. I am glad you found a great resume person that was going to make your skills shine rather than focusing on lack of experience. I am looking forward to seeing what she has done for you. You are a very intelligent and articulate individual. You would be a great asset to any company!!

Hi Sean,
I think you're going to have a kick *ss resume once it's all put together. Really. I know this is just the list of education and certificates, but no one can deny the amount of quality stuff in there. If you're comparing youself and this list to a kid out of college, then you're waaaay ahead I'd say. No one right out of college could have all accomplished all this at that time. Then if you compare your history with someone who has worked since college, you might be a little under that but if your applying for an entry level position I'd say you're in! All in all, I think you've got some awesome stuff listed. It shows you are now prepared to conquer. Can't wait to see the final.

Also, I don't think you need high school info listed since you have a college degree. Don't have to go back that far.

Thanks so much for the kind words and opinions guys. She might have already sent me the rough draft to go over, and I emailed her back the fairly indepth questionare last night. I just wanted to know what you guys thought in general, content wise. Now I need to get her to do a cover letter for me

Spell check! If you keep the High School part in there -- graduation was spelled wrong. Also, you could keep the camp counselor part in there, just don't mention what kind of camp, just the name. Liza

Sean, i think your resume sounds great. It certainly has a lot of valuable information in it. I aslo agree with the previouse poster about not needing to add your high school graduation (that's old info).
I have always been told keep it short and sweet.

Eli

Resume looks good, but yes, spell check (if not done yet) is pertinent. (volunteer was also mispelled!)--Even if you knew how they were spelled, you may miss them from a typo, so doing a spell check, then look over your document would be highly recommended (Spell checkers are not always 100% reliable, either)
Compared to someone "just out of College", it looks like you took the extra mile to get certified from outside the college requirements. By the way, Certification for 9 mm and .38 cal for ** State was put down twice, does that mean that it was based on a different qualification, or different state, or acidentally written in twice?
Anyway, if you are paying a lot for the service, I certainly hope it turns out great for you!
Regards,
Fred

Nah not paying a lot, just under 50 bucks for the resume, and then an additional 20 for the cover letter. WAY cheaper than 700 dollars lol. And yeah that was the original notepad file before I corrected it, I did put down the 9mm and .38 cal twice.

Hi Sean

Looks good, but please beware the good old spellchecker. I don't use them, coz if you inadvertently spell another word (correctly) instead of the word you intended to use, it won't pick it up coz it's not a mistake.
e.g. you say you developed a good 'report' with your colleagues, the word you meant to put is 'rapport'.
I'm the office anal perfectionist and always proof read everyone's work before they send it out.
The amount of times i've seen 'pubic' instead of 'public' and 'manger' instead of 'manager' is incredible.......my colleague also typed a word once, can't remember exactly how it happened, but he ended up sending someone some software to 'masturbate'......doh!! he meant 'evaluate'......but somehow it got changed.......

Good to see your getting stuck into this and not changing your mind!

Sean,

I think your resume is a good industry specific resume. I can tell you that I put a lot of stock in a well written cover letter. It shows that you are actually interested in the job you are applying for and are not just mass mailing resumes.

Good luck in your endeavors
