Cough Swabs/Sputum Cultures

Do any of you do your own sputum cultures? Grateful for any input.

Perhaps I should rephrase that - do any of your do your own sputum cultures (course you do!!) , but what I meant to say is - do you drop them off at clinic, rather than a Doc/Nurse, whoever do the procedure for you?

I do my cultures at clinic when I'm there for a check up. If I can't cough anything up for a sample, then they swab me. I've never had to do a sputum sample at home.

Hello. I have actually done this a few times. Usually, I do it at the clinic, but if I am sick and I can't do it at my primary care physician's office, I do it at the lab. The last time I was at the lab, they gave me 3 or 4 sputum containers to take home (because I had been up there several times to do sputum's-they thought if they gave me extra it would be easier for me). If I have to do a sputum culture, then I can just do it here at home and then take it to the lab at the hospital. Hope that helps you!!

My husband's doc also gave my husband sputum cups for home. That way my husband could produce a sputum sample at home and I would drop it off at the lab at the hospital.

I do them every 3 months (or right at hospital admission) at the clinic/hospital.

I just do jumping jacks or have someone tell me a joke and I'll cough up some junk.

LOL - is this a standard CF thing? Because that's what I get them to do sometimes too.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
