coughing up blood

So I have a raging sinus infection that quickly spead to my lungs. I got it about 3 days ago. I could tell by how bad I felt that I should get an abx and I happened to have some levaquin here so I started on that. Today is day three of that. Just now I sat down at the computer to do my vest and some hs and I when I coughed and spit out my first wad it was full of blood - blood tinged mucous, not just blood, but plenty bloody no less.

What do I do?

I know a lot of you have had this happen beofre - is it most likwely irritation from the constant coughing I have been doing or something worse? I stopped doing the hs becauise I remember reading it did irritate some peoples bleeding, but should I keep doing the vest? My husbad is ready to take me to the hospital, but that is the LAST place I want to go.

I would definitely call your doctor. Bleeding can be very serious and since this is new to you, you definitely want to check in with your doctor. Doing vest and HS can aggravate bleeding, so your doc might want to adjust your treatments, etc. I am sure that your doctor will also want to put you on antibiotics (which it sounds like you already figured out you need anyway).

The only time i used hs i coughed up blood (your not supposed to start it when your sick, one doc. said .. but it was the other doc that started me on it , go figure) i also dont do vest when having a bleed.. i would call my doc and let them know what is going on... also sinus infections can be really nasty, my ent always does a culture, to make sure i'm on the best abx for whatever i'm growing... It can be serious but it can also be no big deal. It might be as simple as a burst blood vessel in your sinuses or throat. I know I have times when I'll cough up a whole mouthfull of blood and my doctor isn't concerned about it unless it happens frequently. It is scary though. Probably more scary for my wife than me. One time I was driving on a busy highway when I coughed up a mouthful. I motioned for something to spit into then unloaded a bunch of blood. She was freaked out but I told her I felt fine and it was no big deal.

It can be serious but it can also be no big deal. It might be as simple as a burst blood vessel in your sinuses or throat. I know I have times when I'll cough up a whole mouthfull of blood and my doctor isn't concerned about it unless it happens frequently. It is scary though. Probably more scary for my wife than me.
