Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep a 6 month old new crawler from sucking on the carpet? I can't see the dirt but I know its there! The hands inevitibly end up in the mouth within moments and I would like to protect him the best I can!

I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to say... every kid eats dirt. And whether or not you see him do it, he will. I probably ingested enough to fill a sandbox when I was little. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My 2 yr old sucks his thumb, so much it's callased. (sp?) I think about the germs he must be putting in his mouth non-stop. All I can do right now is teach him about washing his hands which he loves to do now. I know you can't really do that with your 6 mo old, but they are going to run into one thing after another when it comes to bad habits and germs. Positive reinforcement is about the best thing you can do and try to teach them early. Kids will be kids...cf or not!!

Ditto what Emily said, and you don't want to protect them from too much. You want to get those immune systems exposed so they are better able to handle other things that will inevidabely (can't spell today) travel around.
