Crazy, my son did not shrink

So we went for a weight check again on Monday and our son's weight was supposedly 11lb 6oz which would mean that in a week in a half he lost 2 oz. They also said he was 23 3/4 in when a week and a half ago they told us 24 1/2 which would mean he shrunk by 3/4 of an in. At the visit week and a half ago they also said he was an inch shorter than the prior visit, ok so he is not shrinking. There are too many nurses measuring too many different ways and this is not good when they already don't like his weight in regards to his height. Also I see noway he could have lost weight when we figured out hes taking in like 800+ calories a day. I'm very frustrated with the clinic, all this, the fact they don't listen, their answer to everything is put him in the hospital, and that the dietician(well lets not go there), so we have an appointment with the clinic in Cincinnati next week to see what they say.

It is very frustrating when dealing with different people doign weight/height. If techniques are different at all it will make a difference in the numbers.

I would start doing on your own at home....being sure to do it around the same time of day (this affects weight) & making sure to do it the same way (just diaper etc). This way you have something to compare to when there is such a difference in the doctors.

Glad to hear you will be going to Cincinnati....take note on the time they do it & how if you are going to follow up at home.

I was just looking at DS' growth at the clinic the other day and the same thing -- he apparently shrank a couple inches when he was 2 1/2 <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Sometimes nurses will stretch him out, now that he stands sometimes his heels weren't all the way back or when he'd hear the wooden measuring bar come down toward his head, he'd duck and cringe.

We also have issues with the Peds clinic scale which has NEVER been very inaccurate. And then we'd get the lecture about his supposed weight loss. Obviously he hadn't lost 5 pounds since his last visit because he wouldln't have had that nice layer of fat and he'd be looking gaunt, clothes would've been hanging on him.

Last year we bought a scale that is very accurate, so we weigh ds on a regular basis, so we have a general idea as to where he stands.
