We use Source CF chewables, so that is a no brainer; however, wasn't sure what to choose for beverages.

Carnation instant breakfast plus or Carnation VHC or the juice type beverages. How do they taste? I always buy the powdered CIB in vanilla and mix with whole milk and cream, but am worried the already prepared ones may taste different.

Hi Liza,
Carnation VHC is thicker then the regular CIB. I think the plus is a little better. Marty drinks the plus but doesn't like the VHC. He was drinking scandishakes 3X a day but then he told me they taste like diarrhea.....LOL. He started saying that about two months after starting them. Choosing supplements is a pain and we so depend on them to keep the weight up. He is in the 8th percentile and it was so hard to get it to that. He does good with drinking all of his supplements but I can tell he gets sick of them after a while. Hope you and the little guy are doing well!

CIB in the cans DOES taste different. My kids won't drink it, from past experience, and when I've tried it to figure out why, it tastes like the inside of the can. I think the packets taste much better made up with your own milk. *note- we've never tried the VHC; this is just what we've experienced with the regular Carnation. (Emily also likes Scandishakes, and I think it's for the same reason: it's a powder we mix up ourselves.)

Good thing is that the canned CIB, according to my dietician, can be used through the G-iTube, so it can cut down on enteral supply costs if that is a concern

I'm thinking he's not going to like the premixed stuff, which is unfortunate because it is sent to us free thru Creon's program. I may have to try the juice beverages instead.

Max actually liked the canned cib. They were really handy to take on the go (vacation, lunch boxes, etc). He was only on Creon for one month and I was disappointed that Zenpep didn't offer them too - they have a variety of "shakes" but they are frozen - luckily Max likes those too.

My personal opinion....the juice beverages are disgusting. VERY strong vitamin taste...and makes my tongue feel fuzzy afterward. Yuck!

I don't think the CIB in the can is all that bad...I actually prefer it to Ensure. But I guess at my age...I drink them down like most people take shots or liquor <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
