Jana,
Brady had his first sinus/nose polyup surgery on December 19, 2005. He was 4 years old. He was full of nose polups worse than what they expected and he too grows the Staph. His surgery took about 4 hours. I got the report today and it says his culture results are: rare staphlyococcus aureus, rare streptococcus viridans group and rare candida albicans. Also on one of the cultures it reads rare diphtheriods, they apparantly did 4 cultures thru out his sinuses. I have four different reports but these are the things on all of them. I was really nervous about the surgery and didn't want to put him thru more pain. But I am so glad now that we did it! I didn't realize that he was not breathing thru his nose at all! He was so full of polyups and his nose is actually smaller now. Anyways they did a CT scan to get him ready for that surgery, the surgery they performed is suppose to be the best type out right now, he had dissolvable packing and the ENT doctor was excellent. He really didn't complain of any pain after the surgery. He does not like the nose flushes, but we now just do the ocean spray morning and night to flush them out a little. The second surgery he had was to get the crusting and gunk out that was left and they did end of January. That wasn't the best experience at the hospital because we were there for 9 hours and that surgery only took 1/2 hour, it is a long story. His CT scan today will hopefully show he doesn't need another clean out---cross your fingers. He was only in the hospital a couple of days for a small clean-out after his surgery. He had actually been in the hospital about 3 weeks before his surgery and he had a 3 week clean-out. (part of the clean-out we did at home) He had 2 cleanouts total last year which lasted over 6 weeks. I am hoping that the sinuses was a major part of that. He is doing much better now, eating better, the first time after his surgery he told me "Mom I can small that gravy on the potatoes" He could not before! It is very possible your little girl is feeling the same. Take care and good luck hopefully this new ENT doctor will help you get the answers you need.
