Dair Free, Low Sugar, High Cal Shake

I'm sick and tired of dealing with excess mucous due to milk products in my shakes. I also have cfrd, and am underweight---significantly.

I am going to try making my own High Calorie, Low sugar, Dairy Free Shake. Here's what I'm starting with and I'd like you're suggestion of what else maybe I could add. Anything I add needs to be low sugar, high cal/protein and completely dairy free.

Ingredients:

I'll start with Soy Milk. Then I'm going to try picking up some soy protein powder (which I have heard is available). This should add some extra protein to my shake. Now, here's where I need to get creative. I'm thinking of adding peanut butter, like 1 or 1.5 tbsp's for an additional 190-220 cals. This should take me over 300 Calories.

What else should I add? I'm thinking maybe more nuts, or possibly some kind of oil.

this recipe worked for me

I no longer drink soy drinks as this also contributes to mucus for me. Wheat, dairy, soy and refined sugars are yuck for me.

You can either make this into a pudding or drink depending on how much liquid you use. Since I am a transplant patient, I do not believe in adding protein powders. I rather add my own protein source.

Ok here it goes

Rice milk (organic Rice Dream) or Almond milk You can buy this at Whole foods market. I would add in about a half of a container.
I add in a few heaping Tablespoons of Almond Butter, cashew butter and if you can eat peanut better that would be great.

Then I added in some dried fruits, about a package of dried apples or about two fresh apples. If it does have enough sweet flavor then add in another apple.

The most important part of this is the Egg whites. I actually cooked up my own egg whites (about six eggs) AT first it was just egg whites then I used whole eggs.

I would say that the mixture I made came out to about four servings. I gained weight and it was very healthy. It does cost money to make these drinks but all those feeding tube cans add up too.

Since i never followed an exact recipe because I came up with it myself, it always came out different.
One time, I added Carob powder and it taste just like chocolate.

I do not believe in drinking canned nutrition drinks. I never had great success with them.

For those who are sick and cannot make their own smoothies or puddings, ask someone in your family to prepare them for you.

The idea to gain weight is not to drink this mixture before a meal. I would always eat my regular meals first, rest for one hour or less and then have this pudding or drink. I would try and have the mixture three times a day.
