My daughter had a positive culture for staph come back after her bronch when she was 18 months old. She was admitted to hospital for a period of 2 weeks for IV antibiotics and afterwards was on Tobramycin nebs for 3 months as well as taking augmentin. The next bronch she was completely clear of the bacteria. It has not lead to any new infections so far and she is almost 5 years old now.

My suggestion to you is to write down all your questions and ask your sons CF doctor ALL of them. Do not think you are wasting their time because it is important that you are as clear on th subject as possible since you are the one to carry the worry of your sons condition. AND if the doctor talks in their usual jargon (whhich they assume we all know and understand?) then let him know you don't quite understand so he can explain it in simpler terms.

Good Luck
