Pills do very little, if anything. You need insulin. You don't adjust your calorie intake, you adjust your insulin. Your doctor needs their head checked if they are telling you to not eat. Don't delay either, you'll only be hurting yourself. 250 is extremely high and those kind of numbers will send you in a downward spiral quick. Trust me on this one, good sugar levels will help everything; weight gain, fatigue, PFT's, infection, staying out of the hospital, etc. I'm sure the pills sound like a good idea, but they don't work. Don't be afraid of the needles, they are so tiny, you don't feel them in your arm. Tell your doctor that you need Humalog (fast acting) and maybe even Lantace (long lasting). Learn to carb count too. Carbs=Sugar. Learn to carb count and you can have all the carbs you want, and you'll gain weight. You'll be on the right track in no time and feeling a lot better and living a lot longer. And remember, don't adjust your eating (besides the basics, no soda, candy, etc...) adjust your insulin. I'm not a Dr., but I did stay a Holiday Inn last night.
