Hi Mari,
I had CFRD brought on by the stress of pregnancy. After I delivered I no longer needed to take insulin. You cannot give your baby CFRD but your baby can develop all the regular complications that go along with gestational diabetes. Your own blood sugar highs and lows can be harmful to the baby. My diabetes was very well controlled however, when I delivered the smaller twin had low blood sugar when she was born. For that reason she was monitored in the NICU for 5 days. No interventions were necessary but her blood sugar had to be checked throughout her first day.
I was followed by a gestational diabetes team at my hospital (called Sweet Success, cute, no?) and I had to call in my insulin doses and daily blood sugar readings every third day or so. I also had monthly meetings with this team to make sure my diet was satisfactory to support twins and my diabetes.
Do you have CFRD?
