Did you have irregular periods after coming off birth control?

Hi all,

I went off birth control a little over 3 months ago. The first month off, I got my period early (25 days). The next month, I got my period late (30 days). Now, it has been 33 days since my last period. My GYN said it was nothing to worry about that my body may just still be adjusting. She said to call if I haven't had a period in 90 days. Needless to say, I would rather not wait 90 days! My husband and I were going to start trying last cycle, but I got sick. So, we were planning on trying this cycle - but obviously no period means no ovulation.

Did anyone else have this problem? If so, how long did it take for your periods to regulate?

Thanks!

My cycles were regular after 2 months off the pill. I was on the pill for about 8 years prior to that.

However, I have questionable ovulation issues. For example, I got my period every 30 days and thought everything was fine only to learn after 3 years that I wasn't ovulating properly to get pregnant. So don't think that getting your period means you are safe either. Although, my PCOS diagnosis is also questionable. Two infertility doctors said I had it yet my OB/GYN doctor said 'no' after a laparoscopy. Honestly, I still am not sure what the heck is/was wrong with me. I probably have just as many questions now that I had back then...Doesn't really matter to me now anymore. Too much time gone...

I would give it a little more time but don't think that a period means that you are ovulating either. It still may take a few more months to actually ovulate.

I think my were regular after I was off it. I've been off it like 6 years so...memory is a little foggy. But I was put on it for irregular periods.

I don't really consider 25, 30, 33ish days to be that irregular. There are many, many women who go 60+days between periods. Are you charting? If not, I would highly recommend it because it is really helpful to know if/when you are ovulating & when to expect your period. I went off birth control about 8 months ago and my cycles have been like this: 30, 27, 31, 25, 28, 26, 31. I do know it is very common to be irregular when coming off birth control, and it take take 6 months to a year to regulate. Also, many things, like being sick and stress, can delay ovulation, which will give you a longer cycle. The book Taking Charge or Your Fertility and the website FertilityFriend.com have great info on all this stuff. Good luck!
