Disposable Nebs

I know some people when they travel use disposable nebs as opposed to boiling. We've always used Pari nebs and boiled, but thinking about for our next trip to just get disposable ones.

I know Amy Noexcuses posted that she uses Hudson Updraft II's when she travels.

We travel with a Pari Compressor (Vios, previously the proneb ultra II). The CFF on their site indicates that pari neb cups should be used with tobi and pulmozyme when using the pulmoaide or pari compressors. Sidestream with a mobileaire... Pari disposables are cost prohibitive $7 each I believe. In the hospital they used the nebs similar to the Hudson Updrafts for DS' pulmozyme and duoneb (albuterol/atrovent). So wondering if I should invest in a case of some disposables...

Liza,

One year I bought a case of cheap disposable nebs sets, think I paid about $50. It was just more convenient for travel and avoiding the boiling of nebs. Maggie was on pulmozyme, albuterol, pulmicort at the time(I think). Didn't seem to be a problem. She does not do TOBI yet.

When she was in the hospital the only neb sets they used were the cheap disposable kind and we would toss them after. So, figure for a short time and for convenience it would be just fine.

Just wanted to add; when we traveled over Christmas this year I brought my Electric Pressure cooker for boiling in the hotel room...It was so easy...A pain to pack yes, not something I would bring on a flight, but great for a long road trip kind of traveling.

I found some sidestream disposables for about $60 for 50 units, which is comparable to the hudson's that amy had on her blog... Just need to do some comparable shopping. Our next trip DS won't be on Tobi...

I looked more closely at the pari disposables after someone pointed out they don't have the valve cap that the reusable ones do -- so not sure they'd work with tobi as a good portion of the med would just leak out the top. Plus the cheapest price I could find for those disposables were about $7 a pop. So looks like if we travel with Tobi we'll have to make arrangements to sterilize nebs.

Those rounded-bottom disposables they use at the hospital seem to waste an incredible amount of the medication compared to the Pari nebs- SO much mist just pours out of those things. It's not supposed to matter as much with albuterol or Pulmozyme but I imagine it would be more of an issue with Tobi given the large dose is needed for effectiveness.

Will your hotel have a microwave? I'd consider bringing a microwaveable container to boil the nebs in if you go that route. That would be easy enough to pack and can also be used to soak the nebs in soapy water before boiling and filled with some of his supplies when packing.

For our next major trip the hotel won't have a microwave, but DS won't be on tobi. So the disposable nebs Hudson Updraft or Sidestream should be fine with albuterol & pulmozyme.

When he's been on tobi in the past, I've brought along the deep fryer to boil nebs. So in the future I'll bring something for the nebs. Was just hoping the there was a disposable neb alternative for tobi, but doesn't appear to be the case.
