Does anyone go to the Minnesota Clinic?

Hi - I am new to this. I was just wondering if anyone sees any of the dr's at the Minnesota Clinic at Fairview University? If so, any thoughts or opinions about the care they receive - good or bad?

I don't go, but there's an article online that talks about that clinic...

It's long, but well worth reading.

PS-- To give credit where it's due... I got the article from Coll. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

The reason that I asked this question is that my husband and I are planning a trip to Minnesota from Pennsylvania to get a consultation with the doctors. We would just like to see what another doctors view is of our daughter's health status. So we just wanted to get a feel for the doctors are like.

Emily,

Thanks for including the link to that article - it's incredible!!! Everyone should read it when you get a chance. Because of this article, our center is having a parents meeting to discuss stats of pulmunary function, weight, etc. If I remember right, one of the top cf clinics is in Minnesota. I also think the man who came up witih the vest was the clinic director in Minnesota.

Emily, Coll and Carey,

I also stumbled upon this article about a month ago. It was very interesting. I recently found out that one of the new pulmonologists at our CF clinic came from the Cincinnati clinic. She went through the improvement process that they talked about in the article. She said it was very difficult for them to disclose their shortcomings to patients and families. However, the response they received was very positive and encouraging.

She also said that our CF clinic may begin a similar process. I'm looking forward to it.

Maria (mother of three daughters, the youngest, Samantha w/cf)

P.S. I happened to notice this from another thread ..... Happy Birthday Emily!

Thanks, Maria. Do you have the link to that article? I'd really like to read it. Happy Birthday Emily! Have a great one. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Yes, we go to Fairview.

As with all clinics -there are some people who are better than others. (we haven't seen all of the doctors in the clinics - so I'm just talking about the ones I think are exceptional).

With the pediatric clinic - Dr. Warwick is amazing. Everyone I've talked to loves him. I've heard him speak at a conference - his dedication is amazing (as is his determination to have his patients do the best they can).

With the adult clinic - we see Dr. Dunitz. I really like him. He knows his stuff, and he's a big advocate for exercise. Considering the improvement in my boyfriend's health - exercise DOES help. A lot.

I'm sorry Carey, I guess I wasn't clear. I was also referring to the article in the New Yorker that Emily posted the link for earlier.

I would really be interested to hear how your clinic is initiating the improvement process with the parent meeting. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry, Maria. My own misinterpretation. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I'll let you know how our clinic/parent meeting goes. It's scheduled for March. Our clinic is handing copies of that article to every parent that comes into clinic. I think it's great they are being so open about it. They are really trying to tackle the weight issue...which I think might be lower in stats than some other clinics. I think pulm. function is way up though. We've recently had a series of nutrition/power packing/how to add calories classes by our R.D. They were so incredibly helpful! My son is finally starting to put on weight and his stats at his last visit were great!
