I had one put in right after this past Christmas. It is so much better than the picc line. I've been in the hospital around 8 times in the last year and a half.

To Kimmy : I had one for three years, I was in and out of the hospital almost every month. Mine was under my upper left arm and only the stitches hurt when I first got it. If you need a pic often enough, I have to say that the port is the least painful and easies way to go. Each time they need to use it, its just the tiniest POKE ( not even prick). No IVs. No Pic. No "cant eat after 12 am the day before" if you ever had to go through that. They dont stick out much ( on my arm they didnt) but yes, they CAN annoy every once in a while, to be honest. But they are MUCH better than pic lines.

kimmy: It doesn't hurt now, but for about a month after I got one, It always had like an irratated feeling. After the surgery. SUCKED. for real, no joke, I couldnt move for a couple days, and was on morphine, and pain meds, and it still hurt like helllll. But now I love it. I hate getting it accessed every month, and getting heperin put in every month, but I like it other than that. I got mine the day after my birthday.
