I'm just wondering if other CFers work or don't work,
if you're able to work full time or just part time,
if you went to college or not,
what type of work you all do,
is it hard to move out and buy a house and be on your own?
thanks

I went to college (8 years to be exact!). I started out in community college (and didn't do too well my first year), finished up at a University in Broad Area Art - graphics emphasis, and then went on to a 2 year school for my computer graphics program.

I have been working full-time since graduation as a graphic designer. I do all kinds of design work from print to web and love it! It is also nice to have a desk job (so to speak), and my employer has flexible scheduling, which makes it wonderful for doctor's appointments and extra time for nebbing in the morning.

My health has been mild to this point, so I feel pretty lucky to be able to work and do all the things I enjoy. I have started to think about what I'm going to do in the future when (and if) I'm not able to work full-time.

Being on my own has not been too hard. I make enough money to support myself (but not enough to afford buying a house), and have a nice apartment. I remember it took me a little while once I was on my own to get out of the "I'm free! Nobody is here to tell me what to do or when!" frame of mind, but I'm pretty good now about doing all my therapy and occassionaly getting my exercise in.

I'm guessing your thinking about your options when you graduate - is there a line of work that you are interested in getting into that you want specific advise on?

Thanks Barb
I don't really have a specific field of interest...right now, the worlds the limit (ha)
I just think ahead and kinda thought it might be hard to plan for the future.
lots of different thoughts or worries I guess

I work from home - self employed, full time when the work is there. I'm a graphic designer too. I went to 4 yr art school and I managed health wise very well. There were very long exhaustive days, weeks and months but I kept up and really loved it. I wouldn't want to work at a big company or another studio's office because the luxury of being able to cough and not care, do my breathing any time during the day is THE BEST! For me, income varies since I'm self empoyed, it's feast or famine. Luckily my husband is doing pretty well, but we can't afford a house where we live so that's out of the question until the market comes down.

Up until last July I worked full time. I had to go on med leave because I got very sick and stressed out. I now plan of going back to work very part time when I get better. I lived on my own as well from the age of 21 up until a year ago when my boyfriend and I moved in together.

I went to work after graduating from high school. Never did any type of college. My first job was at a law firm & I learned most of my skills on the job there. I worked for 13 years in total before having to stop due to health reasons. 12 of those years were at our local hospital. I think if I didnt have my daughter it would have been easier to keep working. Basically what it came down to is I didnt have enough to give to being a Mom, Wife, Employee & care for myself. I also know that if it wasnt for my daughter chances of me taking better care of myself is unlikely.

I am a college graduate, I got a degree in Accounting, then became a Certified Public Accountant, now I work full time out of my house doing internal audit. I live by myself. I was pretty healthy through college and the first 2-3 years of work. I'm still pretty healthy but some days I don't really feel like working.

Dani, I've worked to support myself since I was eighteen. That is when I moved to go to school. For two years I was a full time student and worked full time, it was hard but I learned a lot in a short time. Since graduating from college and getting married I have slowed down a bit. I still work full time in an accounting office but now I have more time to spend at home. You are still young and you can do whatever you decide you want to. There is a quote that I would like to share that I have always liked. I'm not sure if I can get all the words correct but here goes:

"You're Crazy" they said "to aim for the stars. The stars are much, much to high."
"You're foolish" they said "look at yourself you're human you can't even fly."
So as I jumped and sprang and leaped laughing they all stood around.
I did not reach the stars as they said, but at least my feet left the ground.

Just decide what you want and then reach for the stars. Anything is possible
