does it take a while for you to cough productively when you start your vest?

i was wondering if it takes you guys a while to cough productively after you start your vest. recently (as in weeks and months) it seems like it takes me longer to get going and i'm not sure why this is. in the first 5 mins doing my vest i'll probalby cough one good cough; then it seems to increase after that.

i'm wondering if this new Hyper-Sal 7% HS isn't working as well as my 10% mixed with albuterol. i definitly feel like this stuff is a lot weaker. it doesn't taste as salty in my throat or mouth. but it's odd b/c what i was mixing myself before had to be very close to 7%! (maybe this should have been a thread about Hyper-Sal!)

could it be that i wake up dehydrated and so have a tougher time removing stuff?

or is this just how it is for some people?

seems like there was something else i was going to say but i can't remember...

thanks for input!

Not sure why your cough would change. I do notice that in the morning, my vest doesn't seem to do much for me unless I add some "huff" coughs. You could maybe try that? It could be that if you're waking up dry you just don't have much to cough out until you've started your day and been moving around, etc... But, I do know that most times (even at night, really) if I don't do huffing (even when I'm doing the vest WITH H.S.!) I don't cough much up. Do you feel well otherwise? I mean, I know when I"m in the hospital and getting "cleaned out", I rarely cough with the vest, so maybe its a good sign that you don't have much to cough up right now... But, if you're feeling kinda funky, maybe its just the opposite and you're not coughing stuff up cause its stuck for some reason... I guess it mostly depends how you feel. Good luck. Maybe someone else will have some better ideas.

my vest/hts typically doesn't produce much until some time after i'm done. usually at least a half hour. some huffing will get things going quicker for me, too.

my night treatment rarely produces anything significant.

I usually get one good cough in the beginning and then it seems to drop off throughout the vest treatment. With HTS, I really start coughing about 20 minutes after, just like kswitch.

When I'm using my vest, one thing I try to do is cut out other distractions and really focus on my breathing. I admit, I don't do this as often as I should, but when I DO do it, I cough up a LOT more. It's almost like a meditation. I picture my airways opening up as I inhale and I picture all that mucous breaking loose and moving up and out as I exhale. Try it, just once. I bet it will make a difference
