Hey everyone its Betty.
Well i went to the dr yesterday. He kinda made me mad. He told me i had adhd and i was depressed (i could have told him that) anyways i asked for medicine to slow down my adhd because its driving me mad, i cant finish anything i start and i cant sit still its been like this always its affecting my sleep also. He wants me to get counsoling but the thing is im on the east side of town and there on the west and i dont have a car no one i know can take me and i have no money for cab so clearly that wont work. Ive tried to stress this to them but they dont listen and never have..even when they perscribe me augmotin and that dont work.
Well the thing is my PFTs were 86% now there 77%. They think it might be a virus thingy but they never gave me meds to fix it they want to wait for six weeks to come back and see if there still there at 77%. I gained 10 pounds in about a week and a half so thats awsome! im now 115 pounds and i was around 101 to 105. Everyone says i look alot healthier and my color is back. Yay cept that i fell as if im really fat because i had to buy a new pair of pants and there a size 7 and a size 11! i was trying them on and i feel as if my legs are really fat and im uncomfortable with this new weight! Have you girls or guys ever felt like that if u gained alot of weight? I just need to know what i can do about the depression and adhd. They suggested a family doc to prescribe the meds for me. and what about my weight. The depression is bad at days at a time ill sit on my couch and do nothing and not leave the apartment or anything and i hate it. it makes me really upset and i wanna die because i cant get myself to move or do anything. What can i do???

Hi Betty. I'm so sorry your dr's are being so difficult! I can't help you with the adhd, but the gaining weight issue I can totally relate to. I gained 10 pounds last summer and everyone loved it (especially my husband, I had more of everything) But I had to go out and buy like pants two sizes bigger and being a woman that's just hard. I knew in my head that it was a good thing and I wouldn't dare try and lose it, but we are still women and once your used to looking a certain way it's hard to change. I truely hope you'll get the help you need with your depression because that could be why your PFT's are down also. Good luck and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

And I'm sure you look awesome with your new weight, it'll grow on you and you'll be glad you have it.

Hmm...I don't know if I can be much help. In the past week I've put on about 8 pounds, so I can identify with the weight gain. My family and friends love it, especially my boyfriend - like Bonnie said - more of everything. I had to go jean shopping yesterday, and it was so frustrating to try things on, and realize that I had to retry stuff on in a bigger size, but I love the fact that I've put on weight. Think of it this way - the more weight you have on you, the healthier you are, and the quicker you can fight those nasty bugs we all get.

As for the depression thing - I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks - I actually went to a doc for the first time about it the other day, and I can say that without treatment, without medication, or whatever means you use to cope, it is hard to ignore the condition. I know that when I get panic attacks or anxiety I can't do anything about it, and have to wait it out. Maybe once you go for counseling or get medication for it, leaving the house won't be so hard for you. Just think that by leaving the house and going for treatment, you are going to get better.

If ever you want to talk, feel free to email or message me at lizd1981@hotmail.com I'm always there as an ear to listen.

Hi Betty,

It is awful to feel depressed all the time. Both of my sons have had periods of depression in the past two years. They are now both on Zoloft for depression and anxiety which helps a ton. My older son is also on Concerta for ADD. He had a very bad two years of school after he was hospitalized for his cf twice. Because he was depressed, he couldn't get motivated to make up work. His grades slid and so did his self-esteem. He had trouble focusing on anything and wanted to sleep all the time. At that time he was on Zyvox so he couldn't take an anti-depressants. It was awful. My husband told the doctor that we have to start treating the WHOLE kid not just the part that has cf.

The depression can be treated easily with medicine if you want to go that route. It will help you get back on track. It will also help you feel better while you adjusting to your new weight. Talk to your doc about recommending a psych doctor or a nurse practitioner to prescribe something or talk to the scoial worker in your clinic. Zoloft is good and Wellbutrin will also help with ADHD.

Good luck.

Hi,

do you take cortisone in high doses? That could lead to a sudden weight gain like you describe it.

Hi Betty

Were you just diagnosed with adhd? How do you know you really have this? Did you get another opinion? Sometimes one condition can mask another. When you are not sleeping well, you can have all the symptoms you are describing. Sleep is so important. Can you take naps, meditate, or get involved in any hobbies to give your mind a place to go and have fun? Distracting yourself is very important. Watching funny movies and calling a friend who makes you laugh. Make yourself happy. I say fake it till you make it.

Gaining weight is a good thing. Perhaps you gained so much too fast? No worries if you are a little too heavy as if you do not eat as much one day you will definitely have extra weight for the next day.
Be nicer to yourself after all, if you are not nobody can be better to you than yourself.

ABout going for therapy, some therapist will work with you on the telephone. Check this out by calling some in your area. Tell them your situation and see if they know of someone who will either visit you or make phone calls.

Hi Betty,

I was Dx with PTSD.(post traumatic stress disorder) I used to not be able to leave the house, get panic attacks, very depressed. For a long time. And on my CF doctor's urging, I started therapy. She was very concerned that it was taking a toll on my CF. Therapy is the only thing that has really helped me. I was scared witless about going. But after like 2 visits, I knew it was right where I was supposed to be. And my doc was right-my pft's went way up soon after therapy started.
You probably know what's best for you, but I just wanted to say that's it's very common for people to be scared about it, to make excuses for not going. (I did it for years!) Just the relief that I feel from talking to someone who truly understands my feelings. Your friends can be there for you, but they can't be therapists.
As far as meds, I kinda wish I could go on them, but my doctor is concerned b/c of some other meds I'm on and them interacting.
All I can tell you is my experience, and therapy has literally saved my life. But it was alot of work.
I wish the best to you! You can overcome this. Be brave.

Im not scared about going to a therapist. I am def not a people person infact i hate people. All my life they made my life a living hell and i dont like going to someone who gets paid 100 bucks a hour and then tell you what you already know and ask "how does that make you feel"
well heres how it makes me feel it ticks me off that i suffer cf and get only 600 bucks a month while they sit on there crack in a big leather chair twiddling there thumbs and drawing doodles on papers getting a hundred bucks a hour. Like i said People has always made my life a living hell.
So im def not scared! *(yes i have anger issues who wouldnt with the crap we all go through)*

Hey there,

I mainly wanted to throw an idea out there for your weight and the issue you are having. Do you work out? I know most people associate working out with weight loss, but muscle weighs more than fat, so if you gained like 10-15 lbs without working out you may be unhappy with the fact that it is more fat than muscle. When I do gain weight (which is rare though I would love to gain 15-25 lbs) I usually try to work out some too, it helps alleviate the "Fat" feeling and it can help you to feel better about yourself overall. You may see a few inches go away, but your weight could very well stay the same or even increase since the muscle would weigh more than the fat you would be losing. Just a thought.

I wish you the best in working out a plan for your adhd and your depression. I have had bouts of depression for years, but nothing that is long term so I don't have much advice to give on that. Hope things start getting better for you.

Dear Vampy

I do not have adhd and do not know what it is but I did a search on this. I think it has to do with hyperactivity but not certain. I just said that you should get another opinion before you start taking drugs. If you went to a psychiatrist and he or she said you have this then yes you have it but I would not trust the opinion of a doctor who does not specialize with adhd because many symptoms can mask the other. just like CF can be taken for many other illnesses.

good luck dear. I hope you get the treatment you need so you can feel better soon
