Drinking with PICC line

I am going over to a friends house tonight and was wondering if I could drink alcohol with a PICC line in. I am on tobra and ceftaz and I have never been told not to. I know that it can lessen the strength of antibiotics but I am not planning on drinking a lot at all. just one glass of wine. Is that too harmful?

just be mindful of your liver. a glass of wine is fine. i think anything more than that while on antibiotics could be very very taxing for your liver. if you're on any oral meds that could complicate things further.

maybe drink slowly too to ease the toll on the liver.

When i'm sick enough to warrant IV antibiotics via my port...I'm usually feeling to crappy to drink anyways (makes the lung gunk like cement), so i usually don't. I'm sure one or two drinks wouldn't hurt, just as long as you are drinking plenty of H2O!!!

Ooooh, be super careful. That is a huge nono. B/c of the liver, and that lots of iv meds have interactions with alcohol. I'm sure it would depend on what you are on of course.
Keep it to a glass of wine-your liver is fighting enough damage control right now. Better yet, go have fun and just drink a wine cooler-they have barely any alcohol content, or have lemonade!

Like anything I am sure there is a risk. I personally dont for a few reasons. I dont want to risk the meds being less affective or do any more harm to my body for something that isnt that big of a deal for me. TO each his own & I would think in moderation you should be ok!

Thanks everyone. When I got over to my boyfriends house he was actually high so no drinking for us. But the good thing is, is because he was high and so out of it I got to watch two hours of What Not to Wear. All in all, a healthier and better night for me<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

And no, I didn't get high
