So I'm almost 16 now, and i ran into some trouble when i was getting my permit to drive. When i originally went to get it, i took the test passed easily, but they said i needed to get medical papers signed by my doctor to drive, which is not easy because the hospital is about 2 hours away. So it took a month or so before i had my scheduled appointment, and when i got there they said that they had never done anything like it before, so i was wondering if anybody else with CF had to get papers signed before they could drive or if the BMV or whatever its called messed up. I now have to wait 2 extra months to get my license because of this dilema, which kind of ruins my 16th birthday. =\

I didn't have any trouble getting my permit (going to get my license next week). I don't know how other states do their permit/license criteria, but it sounds like your DPS messed something up. But don't take my word for it, see what some other people have to say.

Hey I got my permit in Febuary and all I had to do was take the test. They said nothing about papers or anything medical besides asking if I wanted to be an organ donor (i said yes). So I think your DVM office is crazy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I don't really see how it's important for the dmv to even know you have cf, to the best of my knowledge it doesn't effect anything. I'm in Texas and driving is on a state by state basis, but that sounds like something somewhere was lost in communication, just go back and try again and don't tell them you have cf, that's what I would do

I have been driving for almost 7 years and each year I have to have the same paperwork filled out by a doctor.

Basically, your doctor acknowledges that you have a medical condition, but also that it is 100% safe for you to be driving. I also live far away from my CF clinic (3 hours) but I have always been able to have my local primary care provider sign the papers for me. Do you have a local doctor you see for issues other than CF? If so, they should be able to sign the papers for you, no problem. And if your doctor says they have never seen something like it, ask them to take a few minutes to read the paperwork. It is very self explainatory and should only take them a minute or two to read through, even if it is their first time seeing it.

Don't let it get you down too much, but know that this isn't the only time you will have to deal with it. You may get similar paperwork each year and if you don't get it taken care of, your driving priveledge will be revoked.

when i got mine i just took the eyey exam and written test and i was done the said nothing bout paper work from my dr.
getting license this week (if i pass *cross fingers*)
