Dry Cough

We left for a small vacation last Wednesday, and of course DS starts coughing on the way.
It's a dry cough - sounds dry and he hasn't had a runny nose at all. His voice is also a little raspy.

I did call the clinic and she had said to start albuterol (of course we didn't bring that) and up his vest. She said that if it was a bacteria, that he would be presenting cold symptoms, and that it's probably just an irritant.

Any help? We're from Iowa and we're in Michigan right now. I would imagine that the air here is only a help.

Thanks guys!

Hi Shannon,

A huge source of irritation comes from being in the car. All the exhaust from the other cars, in addition to air pollution, comes through the vents and other openings in the car. And if you have the windows open, obviously that's much worse.

Here's what you can do right away. If the car has an option on the dashboard to block outside air, use that. If not, put the air conditioner/heater on recycled air. If you can pick up an air purifyer for the car (not anything that gives off ozone) that would be good, then you can also us it wherever you're staying. If that doesn't help, buy a small air purifier, buy an inverter to plug into the cigarette lighter, and you'll have really clean air.
