dry cough

Alyssa has very minimal lung issues so far with her CF. When she gets sick, she gets a deep, junky, cough and that usually sets off an exacerbation that needs to be treated. Sometimes with orals, sometimes it progresses to IVs. But when she is done with the treatments, she has a baseline cough of nothing.

But in the last week or so, I've noticed that after exertion (running today, yesterday was a few trips up and down the stairs, things like that) she sounds like she is catching her breath and has mini dry almost fake sounding coughs.

This is new to her and to me. I have two other kids who have never done this after exertion, so I'm wondering if its a CF thing. Or if its an indication that she has asthma too? Or maybe its allergies -- since its getting to be the height of spring allergy season here. I'm confused -- does anyone have any insight?

I have heard recently that the pollen count going to be very high this season, unusually so. Do you listen to her lungs with a stethescope ever, to see if she sounds wheezy? Could she be coming down with something? My daughter definately has different coughs, her CF exacerbation cough sounds deep/bronchial loud. She can get a dry cough, which sometimes goes away with a few extra VEST/ nebs over a couple days. Occasionally, something may seem not right with her cough and I'll take her to the doctor if it doesn't go away and she'll be culturing something new; which in the past has been H. flu and staph, which treated seem to go away.

Could just be the high pollen count -- seems to be affecting everyone; however.... Two years ago Max started doing a fakey throat clearing cough and I thought nothing of it, until he cultured Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia.
