I highly recommend NOT trying hot chocolate, hot tea, or coffee, if you want any sleep...they all contain caffeine, and you may stay awake longer!
I suggest gargling, either with a mouthwash, or a little bit of salt in warm water. My remedy is to run warm water (with a little salt, or gargle medicine looking like iodine in Japan--NOT mouthwash!) through my nostrils, but for some not used to it, it'll burn, so it's your own discression to see if it works.
I've used it for several years, because I'd get woken up with a dry cough, which would last a half hour to all night. Having to get up early in the AM, I found getting the cough stopped was most important.
I heard the dry cough is related to the sinus drainage irritating the back of the throat. This is why I run the warm water with a little salt through the nasal passage. The salt will both absorb the sinus drainage, and cut down the inflammation.
Another point, is that the caffeine has to go through the liver, but if you're on antibiotics, the liver is already working O.T., isn't it?
If you haven't found a better method try this...if it doesn't work for you, I hope you can find something that does.
