Dry Skin

My 4 mo. old son, Isaac, has always had sensitive skin. So much so we can't use wipes or he gets "babboon butt." Over the last 4-6 weeks his skin is getting dryer and dryer. Does your child have really dry skin... I mean patches that are pink and just rough to the touch. If so, what do you use to relieve it? I was using Aveeno baby lotion but that seems to irritate him. Then I went to Vaseline but seems so unnatural to be rubbing a petro product all over him. Now I am using Almond Oil but he wicks it up instantaneously. hmm... wondering if it's 1) just him possible excema 2) related to drugs he's getting through my breastmilk (I have cf) 3) related to his a-typical cf.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lauren, are you on antibiotics? Do you think it could be yeast on his bottom? Doesn't hurt to have the pediatrician take a look at it. I used Vaseline on both my kids skin, I think it works really well for irritated skin. But if the rash is yeast; Vaseline will just make it worse by holding in the moisture. HTH

cetaphil lotion is really gentle and they make a lotion and a thicker cream that comes in a tub that works well for my skin when its really dry.

Sounds similar to excema. In any case, skin usually gets a lot dryer in the winter, I think it's the combo of heating the house with that dry heat and the going from cold to hot constantly (outside then inside).

I have a couple of friends whose newborn babies had very dry skin and their pedi's recommended Eucerin lotion. It's very gentle. Plus Eucerin makes Aquaphor too, which is highly recommended by dermatologists who have patients on Accutane for acne because the drug severely dries you out.
