DS in 3% for weight!

Hello,

My son was in the bottom 3% for weight the last doc visit we had. He has 2 appointments this week, so hopefully he's a little more!!

He is 2 months old and on the 26th of June, weighed 7lbs 4oz and was 20.5".

I am trying to fatten him up the best way that I can- adding a bit extra formula to my breast milk (usually only able to give him EBM 2x per day) or using a bit extra formula when making strictly formula and also adding rice cereal to both. I have also been using a spoon of apple sauce, prunes, pears for giving him enzymes.

Here is the problem- he doesn't always eat when I prepare for him. I always prepare 3oz for him and sometimes he'll only eat 1oz, sometimes 2oz and sometimes all 3oz. IF I try to force him to eat, he'll just vomit it all up and not want to eat for a few hours anyway, so I just leave him if he doesn't want anymore.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if anyone has any tips for trying to fatten this little bugger up!! He's really healthy otherwise though.

Hi Lisa,

I know it all depends on what your little guy is willing to consume, but we've had great success with NeoSure by Enfamil. It has higher calories and fat content than other formulas. I've been adding a teaspoon to each 3 oz of EBM. My daughter doesn't mind the flavor...as compared to other formulas....obviously, Toby is getting enzymes prior to each feeding - have they altered the amount he may need?

Your post is from a while ago - hopefully you've found something that works by now! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Lisa,

I just was doing my sons baby book....and at 2 months he was not much bigger than your son. My son at 2 months was 7.13 pounds, and 20 inches as well. But, at 3 months he was 10.5, 4 months 13 pounds, and now at a year he 22 pounds. How many enzymes do you give him...When my son was your sons age I went through the same thing..I'd enzyme him try to feed him and sometimes he only take a little..I talked with our docs and decided to only give him 1/2 of his enzymes before I fed him, and if he continued to eat I give the other half..Half way into the bottle...I watched the clock...I know he was feeding on demand...but hours would go by..So, I tried just offering him something every 2 hrs....and his weight started improving.....He ate just Nestle GoodStart.
