Echogenic bowel?

Didn't want to start a new thread but couldn't find any details in search- my wife went for a 36 week scan today and it highlighted a bowel abnormaility - echogenic bowel ?????/prominent fetal bowel - has anyone come across that during pregnancy and was it an indicator that the child would have CF ? I've probably read too much about meconium illeus and wondered if it were that.
This is our second child. The first has CF which was picked up as a failure to thrive and pancreatic issues.
Thought I was prepared for every eventuality this time round but now have a dreadful sinking feeling.

Ectoplasmic bowel?

My daughter had an ultrasound at 26weeks and it showed a bright spot on the bowel. We didn't have any other CF in the family so she opted for amino. It did come back as CF DDF508. She did have meconium illeis at birth and had surgery but the good news is she is thriving and growing well now after a rough start. I don't know what they called the blockage originally. Did she have any other testing done? The only thing they did different was more ultrasounds to keep track of the blockage. I hope all goes well and you get better answers here from someone who knows more then me.

I believe the term is echogenic bowel. And it is a 'soft-marker' for CF. Given that you have family history, you may want to have amnio to know one way or the other.....

Ectoplasmic bowel?

DS' issues never appeared during the ultrasound or at least it was never mentioned. Shortly after he was born he began to vomit and it was determined he had a bowel obstruction due to meconium illeus. Because the pediatric surgeon at our local hospital was on vacation, ds was lifeflighted to a children's hospital in the city, underwent surgery and had a brief NICU state.

I would hope they would continue to monitor your wife/child thru scans and if your hospital doesn't have a high level NICU, surgeons experienced with this type of issue, to make arrangements to deliver elsewhere.
