Embolization prior to pregnancy

So, as my husband and I chat about whether I should restart my birth control, we are so torn! Torn between how badly we would love to start a family and how horrible our experience was with my first embolization a few weeks ago. I just wish there was a way to predict the chances of that reoccuring in the next year! Did any of you have bleeding or require embolizations prior to pregnancy? AND if so, did you have increased bleeding during that time? Thanks, RAndi

Remember when I emailed ya that night regarding doing Albuterol/Pulmozyme....well I finally talked to someone at my CF Center and then during the night I continued to spit up soooo we went on to hospital at 5am or so. I feel great now but it's totally causing me to re-evaluate things <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0"> Vacation soon for you right? (fb post...) ENJOY GIRLIE!

I have had 3 embolizations and am trying to get pregnant. It has been a very tough decision for my husband and I as well. Our problem was that during the last embolization (11/09), there were complications and they were not able to embolize my left lung. So there's another embolization in my future, there's just no telling when.

My docs asked me to go 6 months without any hemoptysis befor I start trying to conceive. During the 6 months I worked really hard to get my health back to where it was, and thought it would be best to do IUI or IVF to try and capitalize on my "healthy time." Low and behold I started bleeding again and had to put the baby thing back on hold until I see what happens with the bleeding.

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question for you, I can only tell you what my experience has been. I can completely relate to what you're going through...it's such a HUGE decision and there's absolutely no way to know what you're lungs are going to do in the future. If it helps at all, I was told in the hospital that they can still treat you if you start to hemoptysize while you're pregnant; but it's better if you're in your 2nd or 3rd trimester. I can also tell you that there was almost 10 years between my 1st & 2nd embolization, but only 3 months between my 2nd & 3rd. Hope this has helped!
