Enlarged liver and CF

My daughter went to the Gastroenterologist yesterday and we were told she had an enlarged liver by about 2 to 3 cm. The doc asked us to schedule a liver ultrasound next week. He wouldn't say if the enlarged liver was a sign for anything or could cause problems. But then why do an ultrasound on it if it is normal for CFers. Does anyone know anything about this?

Enlarged livers are common in CFers. I have a slightly enlarged one, but since it is not painful, I do not present any symptoms of failure and there is no other indication of it being a problem my Doctor didnt worry about it. We obviously keep an eye on it like around the time we do my annual testings, we include things to make sure my levels are normal etc. I am assuming that the doctor is taking precautions, but that is something that the doctor would have to answer.

DS's doctors always check to see if his liver is enlarged. At his last appointment the doctor mentioned having a Factor 2 test next time he's due for bloodwork. This is a test that indicates liver malfunction should level end up being low.

Cale also has an enlarged liver and his levels are elevated. They put him on Actigol medicine which has taken his levels down, but I haven't seen any sypmtoms or signs that it changed anything.

What do you all mean when you say "levels?" How do you get them tested? Is that what they will do when they do her liver ultrasound?

There is a blood test that measures the level of liver enzymes etc. The number from that test determines normal function etc. The ultrasound just looks at the shape, looking for other abnormalities.
