environmental concerns

I work for a program that works with families with abuse/neglect histories. I'm currently working with a young mother with a one year old little girl in foster care. The mother is currently living with her parents in a rural area in a home with several environmental concerns. The house is old and before we started working with them very dirty. We are working toward getting visits in the home, but the department of children and family has concerns about the presence of pets in the home, and a rodent problem. I have been unable to find any information directly citing problems with pets or pests with CF kids unless they have specific allergies. Any information anyone can give me on environmental concerns would be greatly appreciated

Pets, unless the child has a separate allergy, create no problem. I've grown up with dogs (long-haired), cats, birds, hamsters, mice, and a guinea pig.
