I have to say that I don't use the vest anymore, I never, ever coughed anything up with it ever....(I have a big chest to start with) so I have used the acappela. Recently, I started really increasing my exercise.. I am walking/jogging 5 miles a day five days a week.. It took me a long time to work up to this but I am clearing my lungs like I have never, ever cleared them before...

It is amazing... and weird because I never knew I had gunk down there since I never coughed anything up...

This is very curious to me...my daughter RARELY coughs with either hand CPT or the vest. We just started using the vest a couple of weeks ago and I was nervous that she would start coughing after using it. I was afraid that hand CPT hadn't been very effective and that the vest would prove me correct by producing a cough. Nope. No such luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, her chest rads last year showed "changes" in her lungs fields, thus we started Pulmozyme. Alas, she has a baseline practically zero cough, both prior to Pulmozyme and after (only coughs when having a crying/screaming fit - but I don't mind those because they're good for her lungs <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ). I want her to cough...the rads noted "changes"...why doesn't she cough?!!

I don't know what is the story with her. You can not use my situation to compare, other then exercise is a great way to clear the lungs.. I would get her a jump house or trampeline or something to use IN ADDITION to whatever your doctor prescribes for her.

I am an A typcial CFer so I do things a little differently...

I do use my vest-but I started running about 3 months ago and it is great for airway clearance-for sure! I notice a big difference-and a few weeks ago when I hurt my foot-I could tell the difference when I had to stop running. I am only running about 2 miles (example-today I ran about 2 miles, but we went about 3.5 miles total) but even that is a huge difference. I hope to work my way up to more than 2 miles someday.

DS rarely coughs. No cough is his baseline as well. So when he was a baby/toddler, if he coughed it meant he was coming down with something and needed abx.

We do have him stop a few times during his vest treatments and cough. Something that he wasn't able to do when he was really teeny tiny. He tends to have more post-nasal drip coughs.
