Exercise, spotting, infertility, and some background

I wasn't really too sure where to post this. I need some suggestions...

Well, I thought this past month I would try one last time to conceive. I switched to Mucinex instead of Robitussin and drank (7) 12 oz. glasses of water a day along with my (3) 12 oz. glasses of milk. Yes, I was desperate...

Well, it was another month nothing short of disappointment. My cervical mucus was just as abnormal as ever. Actually, it was one of the worser months. I ovulated this past Monday. When I realized it, the tears just streamed down my face uncontrolably. Jake felt so bad and held me close for what seemed centuries. I was/am brokenhearted.

So we talked about it. I told him everything I did this month, including guzzling plain water like it was going out style. And for those of you, I don't care for plain water at all. I was so determined to do as much right as possible - for nothing. Plus, I actually felt sick while on the Mucinex and ended up trashing it. I don't know how you people can take that??? I felt absolutely losey on it.

Anyway, I made a promise to myself and to him - TO START MOVING ON... That meant no more Robitussin, Mucinex, or anything else like it. No more crying and disappointment. No more "getting over it only to jump back on the baby bandwagon" a few days later. And to avoid the PREGNANCY SECTION more to avoid upset. TIME FOR CHANGE...

One of the most important changes was to start exercising again. I stopped 1.5 years ago when we decided to try and conceive. I was afraid it would have prevented me from conceiving. At the time, I was running 3.5 miles/ 5 days a week with an FEV1 of 75%.

Well, I started getting back in shape Wednesday. Now, I am considered a beginner so I only walked for 1 hour Wednesday and today. I messed with the speeds on the treadmill but never exceeded a brisk walk. Didn't do too bad, I guess - 2.85 miles. I use to do 3.5 miles in 40 minutes with mostly running. Anyway leading to my thread question, I noticed that both days after my workout that I had a pinkish discharge. Almost like spotting put not even that much. Also, I'm somewhat crampy afterwards for a few hours. I was thinking just maybe since I have such abnormal mucus down there that I was actually breaking stuff up and out down there. Does that make sense??? And "no", I'm not on the "baby bandwagon" again by any means. Do you think by working out it's breaking stuff up down there? I mentioned it to Jake today, who agrees with me.

When I worked out 2 years ago with the 3.5 miles, I did start to have two periods a month while on the pill. I was on the same pill for 10 years so my doctors weren't too sure if it was the pill or the workout. I ended up stopping the pill one month later to conceive so it didn't matter in the end. Plus, I stopped working out. My cycles are perfect so whatever was going on worked out in the end.

But I'm only walking now not running. I still think it is cleaning related vs. anything else. What do you think?

Well lets break this down a bit more. Exercise is good for CF because it helps move mucous around. Exercise/sports has been known to cause girls to get their periods later then others. You had experienced similar happenings in the past so exercise seems to have a definite affect on you. I am not sure why you stopped exercising when you decided to try and conceive tho. I am not sure what the connection is for YOU, but there is some type of connection. It seems pretty obvious. As to the baby bandwagon.....I dont know if jumping on/off is good for you emotionally. All I am curious about is how much exercise might change things for you in that department. Did the doctors every comment on exercising versus benefits in "that area of cf"?

Jenn, I just want to say I support you 100% and if there is anyway I can help you please let me know. I also was surprised to read you stopped exercising in order to try to conceive. Did a doctor ever tell you to do this? If conceiving has kept you from exercise, I'm really glad you are letting it go. We NEED to exercise. I'm still exercising - big prego belly and all - my friend in class videotaped me last night in aerobics. She thinks I look hilarious. I'll have to post it here sometime.

Back at the time, my doctor was Dr. William Sexauer. I know Lauren that you know him since you were his patient at one time. He told me to continue to exercise but only walk - no running. I made the decision to stop everything. I was determined to not let any possible thing prevent me from conceiving. I know that decision wasn't too smart but that was what happened. But I am happy to say that I'm walking again and feeling much better directly afterwards. Today, I walked the 2.85 miles and still had the energy to rip the whole downstairs apart for a really good cleaning. Not bad, huh?

You know I had heard of girls/women getting their periods late due to exercise, but for me it has had the opposite affect I guess you could say. Before I stopped 2 years ago, I was starting to get 2 periods a month which I am sure that was another reason why I stopped altogether. I needed to have regular cycles. It could have been the pill, though, too.

I only reflected upon it now since it's only Day 2 of exercise, and I spotted both days. I didn't walk yesterday, Thursday, and didn't spot. Only Wednesday and Friday, the days I walked. So yes, there is a direct connection. I was curious if anyone ever was affected this way. It is interesting, though.

You know I never asked my GYN back then about exercising changing the cervical mucus. I only wanted to know why I had 2 period each month. I don't think I ever mentioned to Dr. Sexauer at the time. I stopped seeing him after only the first 2 months of trying to go out Hershey Medical Center. I am sure that I never mentioned it to my new doctor since I had already stopped working out and all. It wouldn't hurt to ask...

Hi Jennifer. My youngest son is the one that brought me to this site, so I can't offer any info on having CF AND trying to conceive. But we did try for a year to conceive him, so I do understand the frustration. I also know that more goes into it with having CF. We tried for awhile and I was charting and reading books and started going in to the doc to make sure everything was okay. We finally decided to stop trying because it just took so much out of me. I was completely obsessed. Well, of course, that's when we conceived Parker.
I know I don't understand what it's like for you, but I do understand the frustration with trying to conceive. Just let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
