Exhausted/lack of appetite

Lately (since the school year has been out, about two weeks) I have been EXHAUSTED. I have kind of been having trouble falling asleep some nights, which would explain it, but then other days I am simply wiped out. I dont know the reason, I have not been that sick. I was on abx, finished them and have been feeling pretty good, not much coughing and such. I do feel out of breath when I exert myself, so I am assuming my PFT's are down.

In addition to that, I have not been eating as well. In the last year I have been very healthy and my appetite never ceased. I would eat everything on my plate and then I would also snack a lot. In the last week or so, my appetite hasnt been that great. I am not finishing what is on my plate and I am not snacking as much. As a result, I think I have lost a few pounds (maybe like 4). While I was on the oral abx, I wasnt eating b/c my taste buds were all messed up and nothing tasted good...but I have been off of them since wed and havent noticed much difference.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be just that summer heat is getting to me...but it hasnt been THAT hot? Could this happen if my PFT's are down...even though I am not coughing? I have clinic tomorrow, so I will be asking then. But please let me know what you think. I am ok with the not eating as much thing, but the exhaustion is terrible.

Hi,
you should always be sure, that your'e getting enough liquid and nutritions, especially in the summer. Like when you do a lot of sports, you swet a lot of salt and liquids. Might help you a little. Get well soon.

I feel exhausted the more I do and sometimes even when I don't do much at all. My appetite is very picky so I don't eat much of a meal ...more like snack a little. I'm on inhaled antibiotics all the time and take Zithromax M,W,F so that could be causing the appetite problem. Sometimes I think I might not eat too much b/c it makes my breathing harder the fuller I am. So it couold be that your body is fighting an infection and that's why you are so tired. I'm sure you'll know more tomorrow at your appt. Let us know how it goes!

Keep in mind that even if you're not coughing up more gunk that doesn't mean you don't have an exacerbation going on.

Many CFer's have broncheactasis, meaning are airways can be re-shaped due to years upon years of white blood cell damage. What this means is, this airway remodeling can make it difficult for sputum to come up, even if there is an excess amount due to infection.

My recommendation?

1. Get PFT's

2. Get your white blood cell count tested (if you have an active infection, this will show)

Heat can make you tired, but if you think your PFT's are down, then it's not the heat.... maybe time for a tune up!
