Experience with Connecticut CF centers

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with CF centers in CT. I have been going to an out of state center because that is where we moved from, but our insurance recently changed and I am getting bills in the mail. I still have to call the insurance to see if this charge is do to out of state charges, but I am thinking ahead.
I don't know much about the chapters in CT just that there are two. Just wanted to know what everyone's experience has been like.

Thanks,
Weston's mom

HI Weston's mom! My story is very similar to yours! We lived in RI and continued to go to our old center for quite a while after we moved. Eventually our insurance said we had to go to an "in-network provider" and I started getting bills in the mail also. So I gave in and switched to the pediatric pulmonolgy center at Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) in Hartford.

It was hard at first because I loved the old doctor so much, but I am very happy with the care there. I believe the other center is at Yale? For the most part, my son sees Dr. Anita Bhandari, and I love her! PLus the social worker is very nice, and the dietician is working with us pretty closely right now because my son's weight is a little low. Even though he's almost in the 50 th percentile, she says people in atleast the 75th percentile have best lung function, so she'd like to get him closer to that. And the nurse, Ginnie, is great. When we first switched, my son was in the middle of some lung issues, and I had to call her quite a bit. I apologized I was calling so much, I thoguht she was going to think I was neurotic. But she said if it's keeping me up at night, it should be keeping them up at night too.

It is about an hour drive from here. We never have to wait too long in the waiting room. And my son is really quite scared of doctors, so they are always giving him some sort of present, a puppet or a plastic bucket and shovel in the summer. So, even though it was hard to switch I am happy with my son's care there. And we've already been through a hospitalization with them too, which I found a much better experience than the hospitalization at Hasbro in RI.

Sorry so long and let me know if you have any specific questions. We've only been going there since July but I'll try to help you out!

Yes, the other center is Yale. I've gone to Yale since I was 2 days old. Love it. Love. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. But I love Yale personally.

Hi Weston's Mom,
Emily was transferred to Yale at two days of age for surgery and has been going there ever since. We wouldn't trade Yale for the world! At six months of age, when she was positively diagnosed with CF, Dr. Tom Dolan, who was her CF doctor (he has since retired), actually gave us his home phone number is case of an emergency. That's not something you see anymore, but it will give you an idea of the type of doctors they hire at Yale. Wonderful treatment, excellent staff and good friends at Yale!!
