explain your pregnancy breathing

How did your breathing change as your pregnancy progressed? When did u start to feel it change?
Granted i caught a nasty bug which is clearing up now, but i have been more short of breath lately. The doc wants me to work on distinguishing between short of breath, which is typical for pregnancy, and tight. I am gettng more spasms than usual and i get a little winded.
Did your inhaled meds change to help with any breathing problems?
How uncomfortable did you feel-if at all?

I really can't help much but to say that, when I got gestational diabetes, I had a much harder time breathing when my sugar was high (I had been complaining about this for a little while, before they did the test at the usual time). Other than that, my functions went from around 70 % to the mid to low 60%'s, and just recently came back up to the mid 60%'s from the mid 50%'s. - Don't know if that helps you or not <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .

My breathing really didn't suffer - as in I never felt short of breath from baby constricting my lungs - bu-ut, I did cough a whole lot more during my pregnancies - like cough until I puke coughing, which I think was maybe from baby pushing on and irritating my lower lobes - so for example, over the summer I swam a lot - and I could swim just the same as always withouth feeling like I wasn't getting enough air, but I would have to stop and have a huge cughing fit (more than I normally would after exercise) before I could go on swimming - does that make sense?

Hi Christian,

I am at 31 weeks now and notice my breathing is a little more diffcult. I am getting short of breath now at the end of my walks. Also seems like I am coughing more too. I am also noticing I am reaching for my inhaler at night before I go to bed just so I can lay down more easily.

Hope you are feeling better.

i'm asking to asses how uncomfortable some of u got and what if anything u were able to do about it.
i know i am still recovering from and infection so i'll try to take that into consideration, but i feel pretty uncomfortable. like i have a tight belt around my lower ribcage-the doc said that is the baby and not to worry too much, just sucks for me. i just keep thinking, if its like this at the end of my 2nd trimester, how will it be 10 weeks from now?!
how ddi u deal with that discomfort?
the doc says for me to also remember to use albuterol when i need it, if i'm tight-but not for the 'pregnancy' shortness of breath bc it wont help it much and she says more than 2 doses of it per day does put the baby in some distress. basically, use it if i need it of course, but not puff here puff there.
wanderlost-i have had the same puke coughing as u, i cough till i gag and puke. and the spasms too-not that congested, just these spams after exertion where i just keep coughing and coughing.
i went to the mall today and i really noticed that the walking tired my ribs out alot.
so thats what i'm complaining of specifically if it gives u a better idea and did any of you find something to help relieve similar symptoms?
julie u had 3 puppies in there-didn't u get short of breath, of course u don't have cf but u must have been uncomfortable.

I am so sorry Christian. I didnt have any of these issues. My breathing was hardly affected, but I think that is because I carried so low from the very beginning. I hope you can get some comfort. Does making the baby move help at all?

maybe a prenatal massage where they push on your belly lightly might help. I think you should experiment with your arsenal of cf drugs and see if you can find a routine that keeps you feeling less lung discomfort. I have to figure the benefits outweigh the risks with this type of situation.

How's your FEF 25-75 doing this past visit compared with your previous pfts? If it really is your lower lobes getting pressed by baby you willl see a marked decrease in this percentage.

Also, what sort of exercise are you doing? If nothing regular seriously consider a prenatal yoga class. I met this girl today for lunch (blind date) who I met on Craigslist. She highly recommended it. She has a 5 month old and worked out until the week before she delivered which is my goal. Because of the intensity of workshop she was doing at the gym she was having some really bad groin pain from 5 months onward. Prenatal yoga relaxed her and her muscles so she was able to keep up with her exercise routine.

Take care sweetie.
