Exterminating and cf

Hi there,

I'm going to post this in the families and adult section. We've had lots of rain and with rain come spiders and fleas. My question is how do you exterminate with cf? I know this might be a silly question but I have a 4 month old with cf and I'm not quite sure how to handle it. Do any of you have ideas? We only have carpet in one room, do I fumigate? Do I spray? I'm going to call the doctor's office as well I just want to be very careful. Am I being too paranoid about this? Thanks<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I believe we can never be toooo careful. that being said, I have the bug man come every 3-4 months, because i don't like bugs... He sprays mostly outside to get the spiders before they come in... About once a year (after i have seen and killed one too many spiders) he comes in and I (the one with CF go out)... I understand what you mean, can't be too careful-- I had a similar issue last year with termites, they wanted to tent the house ( we would have to move out, bag all medications etc. and I said NO WAY!!! We just treated the areas and are praying for the best. Sorry I don't have any advise or experience about the fleas except perhaps to try to get them before they get bad, i.e treat the pets if you have any... good luck

We just use the Advantage or Frontline type flea treatments(and some are "flea and tick") , and once we used that for a while, we haven't had a problem with fleas in the house, except in the basement a couple of times (I haven't a clue why in the basement! It's all concrete floors! :confused<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">. We do spray the basement (well, my dh does) and open the garage doors to let it air out.

If you start now, and keep it up every 6 weeks or whatever your particular product says, it should start working for you soon. And vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, wipe, wipe, wipe...especially anywhere the animals like to lay down to get rid of the flea eggs, and change your vacuum bag frequently.

We also switch the brands of flea treatments up from time to time, and that seems to help too. We have 4 cats and one dog, btw <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .

When it comes to fumes you can never be too careful. I have always left the house when we would fumigate. My mom would make sure to do it in the morning right after I left for work/school so it would have all day to air out. During the warm months I put the Frontline stuff on my dog to avoid fleas. She doesn't hang outside all that much though and I never take her to areas where fleas could be extreme (local parks/woods). Call me a mean mommy but I HATE fleas!

My friend just had her house exterminated yesterday for termites and she asked the guy if she needed to leave because she is pregnant. He told her anyone pregnant or with any breathing issues should not be around.

If you can take your baby out in the morning and then be gone all day long I would do it then. Or call your local exterminator and see if they can come out on a weekend and then go away for the day, or even make it an overnight thing.
