extreme fatigue...

Hey I'm Donovan, 18 with CF and CF related complications.

I have been experiencing since last year just overall extreme fatigue.

No matter what, I have tried more sleep, more sleep at different times (like going to bed early or going to bed late and sleeping in) no matter what I'm still tired during the day.

I have also tried exercising in the morning before work, I am still tired ... I am getting tired of people calling me lazy when I am in fact not! I've had my heart checked out and its in super shape.

Today I had an appointment at the clinic and one of the CF co-coordinators said that 'your just at that point where your body is in fact tired, tired of fighting' she says that she hears this alot from the other CFers that they are just tired because their bodies are fighting constantly without a break

could someone shed some light on this or tell me if there is a way to find some more energy?

It would be much appreciated!

I wonder if you need an IV tune up. When was the last time you had one? When I'm that tired and it doesn't go away, a 'tune up' helps a lot. The thought that your body is getting tired of fighting was what came to mind too. If you need some IV antibiotics, that could ease your body by killing off some of those persistent bugs and help you get back some of your well deserved energy! The other thought was whether your oxygen levels are low. Do you know?

Sadly there is so much that can affect my fatigue level. Things from the obvious like poor sleep. Even if I sleep 8 hours if its not quality sleep it doesnt matter the length of time. Infection is another yet the meds I get also add to it. Physical & emotional pain as well as diet and dehydration. There is such a fine balance at time that if I cant get all of this in tune with each other, its a never ending battle. Sorry there are no easy answers at times!

Is that the 'only' symptom?

What is a <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>CF co-coordinator</end quote></div> A doctor, nurse, technician, or some other well meaning but uninformed knucklehead? I am just amazed at the stupidity and insensitivity that people have (especially when it is only their opinion and not based in facts.) <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> 'your just at that point where your body is in fact tired, tired of fighting' </end quote></div> Your body is tired of fighting? How did they make that assessment? What medical tests were performed? Make them do a chemical analysis of your blood, maybe you are anemic? If you aren't getting answers, find a new doc if you can.

Are <b><i> YOU </i></b> tired of fighting?

Did they do tests to see if anything was out of wack? Have your sugars been tested recently? Did they do a sputum culture or anything to see if you have an infection?

I know this may or may not help you, but I think like Melissa said...its very common and could be any number of reasons. I am participating in a study (i have been for the last 13 months) on a new neb...and one of my symptoms that I keep reportng back to the nurse is that I'm tired allllll the time. I was in for a cleanout right after Christmas and after the cleanout (two weeks) I wasnt so tired. I told this specific study nurse that and she recorded it, but right again a month later I was tired. Its a vicous cycle and almost immediately when I start going back to my old routine (after my cleanout) I get tired. I think that some of it has to do with all that our bodies are going through at one time or another but if is excessive, you should get it checked out.

Have you had you iron level check? My iron is always low. Once I start on iron, my energy level seems to get better.

cf patients bodies DO get tired of fighting. its a well known fact. im not sure what stage donovan is at but once you get below around 60% you will be more tired. the more your fev1 drops, the more tired you will get until your life consists of sleeping. once other causes have been ruled out and different treatments have been tried then all one can do is listen to their body and take it easy. find out what makes the tiredness a bit better and what makes it worse.
