I'm so use to drama that this isn't really phasing me. I knew I had a 50/50 shot. When I came in the room with the results, Jake was sitting on the sofa watching TV. I said, "Well, I failed another test..." His response, "You're kidding, right?" My response, "Nope." He felt so bad...

Fasting Status: 99 <b>NORMAL</b> (65-99)

Glucose, 1st Hour: 263 <b>HIGH</b> (under 200)

Glucose, 2nd Hour: 200 <b>HIGH</b> (65-99)

A1C: 5.8 (<b>HIGH NORMAL</b>)

My glucose monitor is WAYYYYY off too! It said my fasting sugar was 112, which would have made me worse than I actually was (99). The doctor will have to order me a new one. This monitor from Ascensia is a piece of crap. Any suggestions on a good one?

The endocrinologist placed me on Metformin for the PCOS; however, Met doesn't work for Type 1 diabetes. I'm not too sure what is going to happen there...Met only works for Type 2. Unless, you can be on both Met and insulin shots??? The idea of insulin shots is new to me; however, my sister has been on shots since she was 12.

We'll see what the doctors say...I got the test results mailed to me yesterday so I'm sure the phone will be ringing today at some point. The lab sent me a copy for fasting comparison purposes only. Although, they have known me for years...

At least it's treatable. I had gestational diabetes and I used a Bayer Contour monitor and it was easy, had no problems with it. I've never taken insulin shots but I used to give them to my SIL's mother whenever I saw her, it was very easy to do too.

Hugs,
B

Gosh, I still remember that feeling when I found out I failed the GTT test.
I use the Freestyle Lite monitor. Super easy and uses the tiniest spot of blood.
I am 38 weeks pg and have been able to control the blood sugar with diet and exercise. I have continued to gain weight even while watching my carb intake. I just have to make sure I am eating enough high calorie/protein foods.

Hi Jenny,

I have just joined, so please forgive me if I assume your situation falsely. I am unsure if you were getting the OGTT as a pregnant CF person or a pre-pregnant CF person.

I recently underwent a OGTT and failed too. I am pre-pregnancy so I wanted to see if I was going to have intrapartum difficulties.

My fasting was 112 -- apparently now that is abnormal compared to the previously normal value of <126.

1 hr fasting was 280's and 2 hr fasting was 230's. So pretty much I was classified as a CFRD patient now with the need for insulin intermittently now and one day all the time. So I am now "diabetic" focusing on keeping my sugars in a good range.

FYI: Meters (according to my diabetic educator) can have up to ~10-15% fluctuation between hospital labs and hospital glucometers. So I wouldn't be concerned about your meter being off, that's just how the accuracy is with these meters.

I use the OneTouch Ultra 2 -- it's pretty nice and has ability to leave generic comments by each check glucose (ie, pre/post meal, illness/med/too much or too little food/exercise). I got cables to connect into the computer to download to a program and then I can send to my CF pulmonologist and endocrinologist for them to watch my status.

Also, hemoglobin A1C's are rarely ever utilized in the CF RD world. CF people have higher turnover of red blood cells (where the glucose gets "attached" to and thus, causes a higher reading if serum glucose levels are higher than should be). Therefore, you typically won't see a very high hemoglobin A1C in a CF person. My CF clinic looks at glycemic control (what the glucoses are), weight, lung function, etc in determining how your CFRD is being controlled.

Good luck, Jenn
