Feedback on my site

I'm thinking about making some changes to the website, and would really like some honest feedback.

1. I think the homepage is too cluttered. Not much I can do about changing the Navigation bar at this point as yahoo is suppose to be releasing a "drop down" option soon. So until then, I am leaving the navigation on the home page the same, so someone can see EVERYTHING that is available on the site. But I hate how cluttered the rest of it looks. Please provide feedback on what you think I should remove from the home page, or how I can re-organize it to look better.

2. I am thinking about moving most of the info on the babies to another site, like a baby blog or something that is free. I will leave the IVF and possibly pregnancy journey on the site, because I feel that people do like to hear "success stories" when they are doing their research, but all the pictures, movies...and anything after the babies were born, I want to move so it doesn't take away from the site.

3. AFTER I move all of those things to another site (baby stuff) I am really toying with the idea of putting sponsorship section on there. Bottom like, the site gets 75-200 hits a day on average. I get about 4-7 emails a week from other men with CF or other women with partners with CF who are investigating the infertility information and want further specific information, I get about 3-5 repeat emails/responses out of those initial 4-7. I want to keep this site up and running, I do believe it provides a service, information that is not widely available and hope in the form of success stories; among other things. But the monthly cost of paying for the Yahoo service is really eating into our limited budget. It's not extensive, the cost is $15.45 a month but it's a lot for us now.
I realize there are free sites out there, I have investigated a number of them and none provide what I have currently with yahoo, and I don't want a site plagued with advertisements. So.... what do you guys think? Tacky? Is there a better way to go about this?

4. For those who do have a few minutes to browse around the site, what do you think of the layout? Is it too confusing? Do you get all the info I'm putting out there, or are there questions still un-answered? Do you think most of the rest of the pages are cluttered? (I sort of do!!!). How does the site "show up" on your computer screen? I'm designing it on a 17 inch computer and my family tells me sometimes that it's all out of wack. Do you have a problem with it? Is the font too big....

Please, give me honest feedback. THis website is for the information of others and I really want it to be useful and utilized by those who need it!

HUGE thanks in advance!!!!

I'll throw my two yen in when I've got the time to look at it! Haven't been there in a while, anyway...
I figure a web page is like a puzzle, and an Instruction Manual...It's a matter of how you present it, and how it fills in the "real estate" that counts!! (the word "real estate" was used at Ford Motor when they were talking about Printed Circuit Board space, but I thought it'd be a snappy word for here, too!)
Meantime, sounds like a good idea to put less baby in the "Infertility" area, leaving the pertinent points there, and finding a "Baby Website" for all those photos and such (then adding a link if anyone wants to view them!).

Alrighty.

So you're using yahoo. I haven't used their pay services before.
<s>How are you programming the site, is it a WYSIWYG editor? HTML? CSS? Depending on how you're editing it you might be able to de-clutter the homepage quite simply without removing information.</s> Never mind I noticed you're using site builder...

As for the hosting, I'd look into GoDaddy. I'm paying $4 a month for hosting. If you're getting 75 - 200 hits a day you could go for their Deluxe hosting package for $7 a month and possibly see about adding Google AdSense on it as a way to generate revenue to pay for it. Though boyfriend, who is a real computer geek says that if you're getting that amount of hits than the economy hosting ($4) should be more than enough and I tend to agree.

As for more in detail stuff I'm going to send you a PM.

I'll look into the godaddy you recommended. I just dread moving all the info, LOL! I can't do it at work on my lunch or "pumping breaks" because of all the internet blockers there. Therefore, I do all my updating at home and that's a lot of moving to do, versus spending time with babies, LOL.

But I will look into it. Thanks for taking a look!

Thanks Fred, I eagerly await your feedback my analytical friend <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

It looks like the CFF reorganized their site, so the link to "what is Cystic Fibrosis is broken.

There's a lot of places where I have to use the horizontal-scroll bar to read text. A lot of sites have an imaginary line running down the right side of the navigation menu to the bottom of the page so all the text is contained on the right side of the line and any information not directly related to the text is contained on the left side of the line. That way people can scroll to the right to read information and not have to scroll back unless they need the navigation menu. (Perhaps some computers do not need the scroll-bar, I am not sure how it works).

This might help in making the site look less cluttered as well. You might also try making all the boxes have consistent width. For example, on the title page, the top yellow, pink and purple boxes are consistent, but the grey and bottom yellow boxes are not. You might try containing the Resolve and NCIID to the left of the line, under the navigation bar, and having everything else to the right of the line.

I think I'm being confusing, so I drew a quick picture to show what I'm talking about.

Wow jarod, thanks for the diagram, that's a great idea. I'll play aroudn with it this week and see how i can get it all figured out.

Do you think the different colors on the home page are too much? Should I stick with just a few colors?

I'll fix that CFF link. Thanks!
