First Hospital Visit...Help

I am going into the hospital for the first time on Tuesday. I am being treated with antibiotics. Does anyone have any advice about what they are going to be doing? My doctor's haven't told me anything. Any other suggestions about what to bring with me and how to keep me from getting bored?

Chances are they're gonna put in a picc line. And I don't know if it's just me but I like to bring a bunch of stuff like extra clothes and I know i'm gonna sound like a total corn ball but I like 2 bring my favorite stuffed animal. And like a hand held game cuz I always have to wait a long time before they out the picc line in. So I hope this helps.

My boys always bring their stuffed animals too. Also game boys and videos. If you have a phone card, thats good too. Bring your own clothes and fun stuff like nail polish to keep you busy.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck

My daughter takes her own blanket and pillow, She has a mink tweety bird blanket that she has taken in since she was 6 and all of the nurses recognise it now and know when kj is in

Also see if your c/f association will pay for a tv, Take in games, books anything at all to make you more comfortable. We always almost need a truck to get everything home again

Yes I am getting a picc line put in. I am going in for 4-5 days until they get my antibiotics levels right and then I get to go home. I will then be getting a home health nurse to come to my house about 3 times a day to give me more antibiotics. Do you normally get to leave the hospital? One of the nurses told me that once I do a treatment I can leave for a couple hours? Has this been your experience as well? I don't have any stuffed animals but I do have a blanket and it looks like it is going to fall apart but I am definatly bringing it with me.

I usually stay 5-6 days and then I go home with my picc line and have a home healthcare nurse come to change the dressing and to show me what to do. I found it very east and much more comfortable at home. I usually try and bring my favorite movies and catch up on magazines and soduka puzzles while I am staying the hospital. I also joke around with the nurses alot and become freindly with them to also make the time fly. I remember my first time and I was 15 and very nervous about what the picc line and what they would do, but I found it to be not bad at all. It is alot easier and better to handle then I thought it would be. Good luck and I hope everything is fine
