I'm starting to get excited!!! Jake and I have been so busy the past few weeks. We installed brand new carpeting throughout the whole downstairs + some beautiful ceramic tile. We also painted nearly every room throughout the entire house!!! These were things that we wanted to do at some point anyway, but we decided to bump everything up BEFORE we had a child or 2 running around. LOL! We have been living in our 'forever home' since November, and now it shows our true colors - golds, oranges, greens, grays, and reds. Our home is the perfect hangout for a Latin family. Trust me! Not everyone would go for our look!!! LOL!

I had a few neighbors over who remembered the home as it was before, and they couldn't believe their eyes. All said it looked so much better; however, some admitted that the colors on the walls were a little 'much' for them!!! LOL!!!

Anyway, the child's room is a bold orange/red with tan/brown carpeting. We have 2 beautiful cabinets in there for his/her/their clothes. However, we can't get a bed yet because we have NO IDEA how many or how old of a child/children we will be getting. We might need a crib, a bed, or even a bunk bed...The same unsureness holds true as far as toys, car seats, and clothes are concerned. So we are as 'ready' as 'ready' can be...

According to our neighbor who used the same agency as we are for 10 years, we will probably not make it through the classes. The first is this Saturday. The second is September 6th 9:00 - 4:00. The final one is September 20th 9:00 - 4:00. She said she and her husband only made it to the second one and were immediately placed with sibling girls. Since we are open to hearing about siblings of 2, this could also happen to us!!!

Bonnie also said that usually you get a call on Wednesday from your agency stating that a child has a hearing with the court the following day, Thursday. The agency then gives you a rundown about the child, any family involvement, the conditions to which the child is being removed from, and the likeliness of adoption in the future. You are given about 1 hour to discuss it over with your spouse. You aren't locked into anything. If you say 'no', they call the next family in line. If you say 'yes', the agency either brings the child to you after the hearing or you must pick the child up at the courthouse. This can get emotional if the parent/parents are still present. They look at you as the ememy.

Hopefully, I will have Wednesday night to get a child seat, clothes, and at least a couple toys. The beginning is tough. Everyone is telling me that. Often the child wets the bed every night and has a difficult time sleeping. It takes about 3 weeks for a turnaround. The children often have lice too. I'm prepared for anything. I have spent so much time talking to everyone and anyone who has fostered children that I feel I'm as prepared as I can possibly be going in.

Wish me luck! I will keep you all posted when we have a placement. I can't post any pictures or state the conditions of removal, but I can tell you the sex, age, race, and how many. I can't exchanges pictures unless an adoption takes place.

Thank you, Bonnie, for your words of encouragement!!!

UPDATE: Our caseworker called 3:30 pm, Thursday, and said that all our background checks, references, and everything else are in. All the reports are with Human Resources for final review. We will be on the 'CALL LIST' by next week!!!

So it's on with the first meeting!!! After that, who knows???

To be honest, I think the wondering is the crazest part. For example, I know I'm not welcoming a newborn from my womb. I keep thinking will I be welcoming a 6-month-old, a 2-year-old, or a 4-year-old??? Where is my fost/adopt child now??? Are they hurting??? What will he look like???

Jake and I were at a baseball game last Friday night and managed to get seated next to a 4-year-old boy. As we were watching him pull pranks on his Dad, we kept thinking, "Wow, our child could be that age?"

The questions of who, what, where, and why just keeping filling our heads...

I hope no one misinterprets what I'm saying. I'm not putting anyone's natural births down in any way!!! I'm only saying that instead of me questioning if the baby will look like Jake or I it is more like will the child be Spanish, White, Half Black/White, and so on...There are so many shades of gray!!!
