First Ultrasound

Hi everyone,

We got to see our little peanut on ultrasound yesterday for the first time. The nurse told me that I'm only 6w2d right now and that's because they recalculated my EDD because my IUI was 21 DPO. I guess that pushes the EDD back a week or something (even though I was under the impression that it was based on your LMP no matter what). So my EDD is August 11, 2008.

She said everything looked okay except my cervix is short. She said that could cause some complications with preterm labor. She said it might lengthen during pregnancy though. Anyone have a short cervix?

She said my ovaries and everything else looked great. The baby's HR was 128, which she said was low.

Then when she took the ultrasound probe out I was bleeding everywhere! A little freaky, but she said it was from the probe touching my cervix. Luckily it was only light bleeding with no cramping, so I'm sure everything is fine and it really was just cervical blood.

It seems as though I'm losing quite a bit of weight rather than gaining. I seemed to have lost a couple pounds already. I haven't had any appetite though because of morning sickness. I haven't experienced vomiting but I am nauseas off and on. My appetite is just horrible right now. How did you guys deal with the morning sickness?

So I have to meet once more with the fertility doctor next week. Not sure why I have to go back to him, but I guess it's just because I'm high risk and he probably wants to make sure I get proper care. Then I will be followed up by my high-risk OB very soon afterwards.

It's great to see so many new pregnancies on here. I've been gone on vacation and I seem to have missed a lot of good news! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Yeah!

i lost probably about 5 lbs or maybe a little more since i got pregnant. i've had severe morning sickness. they put me on medicine to combat it. there's different things you can try to combat morning sickness. i personally haven't found one that works for me. you can go to marchofdimes.com and they have information on there somewhere and it will give you some ideas to try and help. my cf nutritist yesterday printed it out for me. my appetite hasn't been great either, food just seems so gross to me right now. im 12 weeks, actually i'll be 13 weeks tomorrow. they say to try eating small meals all day long instead of 3 big ones. try seperating liquids from solids. if you can't find the info on little tips let me know and i'll pull mine out and put them on here for ya! good luck!

I had a shortened cervix in my third trimester and it did cause preterm labor. I was on bedrest for it. Two things I found helpful with morning sickness were sea bands (motion sickness wrist bands) and pregger drops candy. Other things that help are eating every two hours and try to stick with bland foods. Soups were great for that. Try eating peanut butter on wholegrain bread a few times a week, and carry food with you at all times if you don't already do that. When you wake up at night to pee, try drinking a little water and eating a tiny snack. I found string cheese to be a great night snack.

Congrats Leah!

I don't know anyything about a shortened cervix but a good friend of mine had to have a cerclage put in around 14 weeks after losing her first pregnancy at 18 weeks. I don't know if she had a shor cervix or just a weak one.

I lost about 5 lbs in first trimester w/ Logan and only gained 18 lbs total. I had bad nausea from weeks 5-10 and then later in my pregnancy I coldn't eat much at one sitting or I'd be in horrbile stomach pain for hours after a meal. This time I hope to gain a little more weight in hopes of having a little bit bigger baby (logan was only 5 lbs 11 oz but perfectly healthy). This pregnancy my weight has been stable so far since my nausea is less than w/ Logan.

Oh and yea EDD is initially based off of LMP till they can determine a date based on ovulation (if you were charting or using OPKs) or measuring the fetus w/ an early ultrasound. Since most women don't have a typical 28 day cycle basing EDD on LMP alone could end up terribly inaccurate.
