It's that time of year again. Got DS' yesterday afternoon. We hope to get ours at the flu blitz clinic next week. There are already a few influenza cases in our region. Nursing homes, but still makes me a tad edgy.

My doctor tells me to wait until October to get it....so it will protect me through the spring.

However-since I have already had some type of the flu this year (not one that the flu shot covers though) - I may be getting it sooner rather than later.

I think as soon as I am back to normal - I am going to go in and get it!

Flu shot takes about two weeks before it becomes effective.

We'd always been told end of October or beginning of November in the past because flu seemed to hit around Thanksgiving when lots of people travel and to carry us thru to March/April; however, it seems as if the flu season has started earlier and earlier. Seems to hit our area particularly hard mid-October. Add to that, the local clinics seem to have underestimated the need and run out almost as soon as it becomes available.

Last year we were told to get vaccinated as soon as the shot became available.

Yes, I tend to get mine before October starts... and our flu season is long, my local pulmonologist sometimes has me get a booster flu shot in January depending on how the flu season has been going in our area.

For the first time last year, our doctor mentioned the possibility of getting a booster flu shot as well.
