Heyo!

You talked to me earlier in a post about living on my own and you mentioned the benifits that you are recieving such as section 8.
I was just curious... do you live in Texas? If so where?
I am from west texas and I did see alot of stuff on the internet about this.
I really appreciate the help and I think it might help open a few doors for me.
I was also wondering what kind of process you went through to get these benifits and how long it took. I am on SSI and I was also wondering if they would deduct from my SSI benifets in any way if I did these programs.

I am going to contact some people about it but I was wondering if I could get some quick input from you as far as how the whole process works.

www.hud.gov is the best place to start looking around for section 8 benefits in your area-regardless of where you live.

I live in Pennsylvania. The SSI was the longest process of waiting i had since when i applied i barely had any symptoms of cf. It took getting a lawyer to get them to find me a job i could tollerate with "cf restrictions". The section 8 took about a year or a little less only because there was a waiting list when i applied. But once i got my appointment and my application reviewed and processed, i got an answer within a few weeks. The food stamps i had been getting for years since i had already been on S.S.I.. Usually when you are on S.S.I , you qualify for food stamps when you live on your own. I get the full amount of S.S.I which is only $579. monthly. which puts my annual income poverty level. Being at that level pretty much automatically qualifies me for the other programs. Call your phone company and ask them if they have any programs for low income people. and also the electric company so you will get an idea of what they have to offer. Then go to your local welfare office and see what they have to offer. Sometimes the welfare office will get you expedited food stamps or even cash quickly if you need it.
None of these programs deducts from the S.S.I. benefits, BUT the amount you will be given in any of these programs will be dependant on how much you receive from S.S.I. I remember the SSI process being long and repeatative... one of my friends was going through it shortly after me, and the people at the SSI office made her cry... that lady was a real 'B' to do such a thing... like a person as thin as she was carrying oxygen is gonna fake it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">

Some people need to be better with their social skills.
