How do those of you that are actively trying to gain weight deal with the constant bloated feelings?

I have always struggled with my weight. It has fluctuated my whole life. Over the summer I lost a considerable amount of it (illness, heat, etc) and I am now trying to gain.

I drink supplements and take Marinol to help, and it is working. I can feel it! Not only is my appetite increasing, but so is my energy. The drawback- constantly feeling bloated and "fat" (not in a bad way, almost like nothing is fitting right anymore) I am in between sizes right now. Whenever I gain weight- my gut gets it first.

So this is kind of a vent- kind of looking for support- post. How do you ladies deal with weight and appearance in general?

I am 5'6" and I am weighing about 125lbs now. My doctor would like me to gain about 15 or so more lbs. If I am feeling like this already.... I can only imagine!

Here is my no-CF-therefore-take-with-a-grain-of-salt advice:

buy bigger clothes
do some form of exercise that works your core (pilates, dance, yoga)

I am 5'5" and have been 115-120 for several months, but when I am sicker, I stay in the 110-114 range. My chest takes the brunt of it--collarbone and ribs poking out, absolutely no breasts...but I do like how my jeans fit :) So I get your ambivalence about the weight gain. I do not have a lot of clothes, but I have a few pieces that only work in the extremes...i.e. horrible dumpy fabric butt if I am low weight and sausage thighs if I am high end of my range. Having had kids, the belly used to flop out and be bigger looking because of muscle stretching/weakness. Doing pilates and dancing has helped, but I realize that with CF there may be other stomach issues happening.

I second what Melissa is suggesting. Getting your body ripped will help your image. When you gain weight when you are totally toned it seems to come on as muscle. I'm not sure if that's what really happens but I can gain 14 lbs (5'3" 114lbs to 128 lbs) and when I tell people they can't believe me. Of course I know but I am okay with it and happy to be healthy. I do suggest you buy clothes for the projected size as well as the inbetween size if necessary. I stay home so I have some cute sweatsuits that are comfy. Regarding the bloating, perhaps you should take metamucil.

I am 5'1 and my usual weight is between 130-135. I am pretty slender, but I have huge boobs! Ugh!! Several years ago I started having a real issue with bloating. By the end of the day it felt like I needed to go up about 4 pant sizes. Of course when I went to my PCP, they said it was all CF related and they couldn't help. I ended up beefing up to 160 and went on the Adkins diet. I switched over to diet sodas, water, and unsweet teas and such. Since I did that, I really don't have many bloating issues anymore. Something that would be fun for exercise is a stripper-pole aerobics class! I took it with some friends, and you would not believe how strong it made my chest and abs! I also notice that when I am gassy, I can do crunches and it helps relieve it so definitely get some ab workouts in there somewhere and it may help. Plus also maybe not eating foods that you notice heavily contribute to your problem!
