I am one of those unlucky souls that lives without a dishwasher. I am also a germ-freak(ocd). I was wonder if anyone new how well dawn dishsoap disinfects, or does it? Is washing dishes in hot soapy water enough? Thanks

I also live without a dishwasher, but I am not a germ freak. So I can't help any, sorry. I just use regular dish soap and don't pay any mind to it. *shrug*

presumeably if you had a dishwasher, you wouldn't have these concerns as a dishwasher washes the dishes in ...eh.....hot soapy water...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I also don't have a dishwasher, and am somewhat of a germ freak (ocd), but thankfull all I need to use to wash my dishes are hot soapy water and gloves. That's it. The soap I use is either an antibacterial or Oxy Plus.

I have a dishwasher & have had it for about a year. IN all honesty I think handwashing does a better job overall, but its convenient. I know much of it depends on the washer with all the "extras" that can come with it. Mine is pretty basic. I would never wash my nebs in it that I can tell you, but that is as close to worrying about germs with it as I get.

One of my cousins is a bit of a germaphobe and she uses bleach. Puts bleach in her dishwater and keeps a spray bottle of bleach water on her kitchen counter to wipe things down.

I use the dishwasher for plates, silverware and coffee cups. But I wash DS's neb cups, sippy cups, oral syringes in very hot soapy water. Fortunate our water in the kitchen is very very hot. So I have to use gloves.

When I'm travelling, a lot of times I boil water first and add that to the soapy dishwater, then let everything soak. When we were in Mexico last winter, the house we stayed at did have filtered water, but just in case, I boiled the water first and then put that in the sink.

I am a total germa-phobic too. There are antibacterial dishsoaps out there now. I think Dawn makes one. They are alot better at destroying harmful bacteria than regualar soaps. They say they cover like, 99% of germs, inculding salmonella and staph, ect.
What I also LOVE is the Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface spray-I don't like to put bleach on everything b/c its not good to let your skin contact bleach. This has the same properties as bleach, but its not as harsh. And it kills influenza viruses, salmonella, staph, strep, and most other bacterias. What makes it so good is that you can spray it on your cutting boards, near foods and counters and if it gets on foods, its not harmful.

hmm-Should I be a spokesperson?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
