for those on albuterol

Learned over the weekend that Xopenex (levalbuterol) is now available generic. Our son has been on Xopenex since about 2 months old as opposed to albuterol b/c he has a hole in his heart and also had perifiral pulmonary stenosis (sp?) and both ped and family members who were doctors suggested Xopenex to avoid albuterol's "racing of the heart" affect. Anyone on albuterol (or whose kids are) might want to give levalbuterol a try too now that it's generic b/c it is likely now covered/dr. more likely to prescribe and even if just a slightly better/less discomforting affect, might be worth it.

I ordered a 3 month refill for my son's Xopenex (we use mail order), and received the levalbuterol. I totally love the new cost of $20 vs. the $80 we previously paid. It seems to be working the same.

Scrapper,
That's how I learned about the generic! I was actually annoyed b/c I thought they sent albuterol by mistake and also am leary of generics. But I called and spoke to the pharmacist and he pulled up the active and inactive ingredients and also the FDA rating which he said was the highest you could have for a generic substitute (A+?), I think. He kids have asthma and I explained DS heart issues and while I started off thinking I was going to insist on Xopenex, I felt very reassured that it will be no different.

scrapper1264 my daughter's takes Xopenex and I was wondering if the generic has a counter on the inhaler or do use the nebulized version? Financially switching to generic sounds good.
